Can't close the tail gate with the key FOB?

I just assumed that the tail gate would close with they key FOB in the same manner as opening it (holding the "truck" button. Didn't work. Called a BMW Genius and they indicated that you can't close the tail gate with the key FOB. wha-hunh??? How could that be? Is that right?

I’ve tried and been unsuccessful. Seems silly but I just moved on. Not the biggest deal for me.

Is this a regional thing? I'm from the UK and the tailgate can be closed by holding the button on the key.

All you have to do is pick up the Bimmercode app and an adapter. You can set the door to open/close several different ways. With many other settings otherwise unavailable, everyone should do it. If you have any questions on the Bimmercode app - there are dozens herein.

Testify!

I just got finished Bimmercoding my X3M - first time I've done it. Super easy, and yes, I was able to enable the tail gate close with key FOB function.

I got the Bimmercode/adaptor for that and the right wing-mirror control. That made the whole process more than worth it.

Do you have a citation for that claim? I don't know of any other manufacturer that doesn't have the fob automatically close the tailgate.

No, just a good guess

Me neither...
We could ask BMW AG but I doubt we'll get an answer!

It is weird. On my new 2022 X3MC I can't close the gate with the FOB. It's literally the first car I've had in over 10 years that doesn't allow such a thing.

Will Bimmercode void any warranties?

I've done it a ton on a bunch of cars and the dealer has never said a thing. I haven't heard of any issues with it. I'd imagine especially if you do the basic stuff without going deep into the advanced coding like maybe you'd do with eSys, although even with eSys coding I've had done I haven't had any problems. I even had the dealer set me up with a guy to do it a few cars ago.

Dealerships don't void warranties, BMW in WCL does here in the US.

Coding can flag your car, any kind of coding no matter how small. You changing OEM software on your own risk. Don't give them anything to make your warranty claim complicated on a new car.

You’re not wrong, but keep in mind that for BMW to not honor their warranty, legally they would have to prove a direct correlation between the problem you’re making a warranty claim on, and you’re coding. They could not for example refuse to cover a warranty issue with the transmission or engine just because you changed a setting to allow the key fob to close the tail gate.

I saw vehicle getting flagged for mirror folding coding.

ISTA is very black and white and will flag every FDL coding. Once the car is flagged it cannot be CPO and warranty can be a pain, at least they can make your life difficult.

Not sure if I want to have a new flagged car and deal with that.
