Speccing our new G82 M4 X Drive with BMW's EVE VR configurator

It's time to order our next Development Car, one most of you knew was coming, an xDrive G82 M4! This will be the car we go deep in to development with, pushing the platform to see if it can follow in the footsteps of our F90 M5.

But first we need to decide a spec. We head down to BMW Park Lane to try out BMW's brand new E.V.E - Emotional Virtual Experience. This allows us to see the car of our specification in real time in full 3D. A huge step forward from the previous system, and one that lets us get a real feel for the car.

Glad to see this tool being used at actual dealerships. I’ve used this system many times years ago but BMW started to go away from it since it was hardly used. This tool would seriously only be used to stall for time and was more of a gimmick than a tool of use. Hopefully they have improved the connectivity of this to make it useful for dealerships to use this with all customers.

This new EVE VR configurator should be made available to the public and replace the current online BMW Configurator which is somewhat underwhelming by today's standards

That is wicked cool. And agree with evolution above… the current configurator is pretty lame for what we are capable of in modern times.

Imran@Evolve - 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile times are great and all that, but are you going to make a video comparing whether the M3 or M4 could make it through the Rufford Lane ford?

That is actually what they are working on. Years ago I went to the BMW R&D center in the Bay Area and they hooked me up to an oculus. They told me the goal was to have someone put the headset on and see the car they built as if they were sitting in it. They were also working on idrive 7 at the time we went there so who know where they are in the process of developing this.
