Sport HUD in Road mode: Campaign to BMW Corp
Hey all -
Hoping I can recruit folks to campaign to BMW Corp for a software change. I'll explain: I took delivery a week ago of my M4 Comp xDrive and so far I'm blown away. It's an extraordinary machine and when compared to my F82 (non Comp model), it's an upgrade across every part of the experience. I can list my specs if folks are curious, but most relevant for this thread is that I have the Executive Package with Heads up Display (among other features that come with this package). The single gripe I have is that I can't enable the Sport HUD (with RPM hockeystick gauge, current gear, speed, etc) with the M1/M2 buttons. To get the Sport HUD, I have to use the M Mode button. This is personally annoying because it changes the Instrument cluster and iDrive Control Display to something I don't want 98% of the time. Others on this forum suggested to call BMW Corp (Genius line: 1-844-443-6487) so I did just that. My request was simple: allow us to choose our desired HUD within the M1/M2 button configurations, that way we get our preferred HUD along with the displays and engine/chassis configurations we prefer. The rep said he'd pass the request along to developers for a potential over-the-air software update. So, perhaps others can do the same and report back here? |

The Instrument cluster and Control display give me more detailed info I want (Nav, Media, outside temp, fuel level, and tons more) with a simple glance. But for the HUD I want to know RPM/gear/speed in one convenient view, which only the Sport HUD offers.
So the request is to have the same flexibility in configuring the M1/M2 buttons like we had with the F8x generation, at least with respect to the HUD. |

So it probably doesn't hurt to call Corp as well as pester the local dealer reps. I'm generally not in the habit of complaining, but dropping six figures on a car that lacks features I could easily configure in the previous generation is a big disappointment, especially because the HUD was the singular thing I wanted most from the Executive Package. |

This 100% should be something BMW needs to fix with an update. Now I realize what other people have been complaining about. Hopefully calling will actually do something.

Honestly glad I'm not alone in wanting this specific capability. I think if we all call and perhaps post here what the rep says, this seems feasible for them to patch.

Good idea. I'll suggest that calling BMW directly will more likely have an effect than talking to a "genius" which I have found to be less than helpful in the past.
The customer service number that I have is 866-833-4362. I also have this for an email to them: ShareYourThoughts@bmwusa.com It may be a bigger deal to do this than you think, as they will have to modify menus, options, review it in all languages, test it, and release it. At least that's how things like that work in my world as a software development manager. It would be easier if it were something that we could tweak in Bimmercode.

No idea why they changed it and totally agree I'm hoping they'll update it. Please pester them at Corp so they feel some pressure! |

I actually spent a lot of time trying to figure out in the settings to enable this feature without using the m button. Which I found out it wasn't possible and very disappointing.
On my 2019 330i with HUD it does have an option in idrive to always show sport HUD. So it is possible. I'll be making a call to request this change. |

Totally agree. In the 6MT the "M Mode" HUD is fantastic to have the tach so clearly displayed, but it would be nice to mix and match the displays more.
That said, I find I barely look at the dash. About the only things I look at it for are fuel, engine temp, and tire temp/pressure. |

Can you do it in reverse? For example, hit the M Mode button but configure that display to remove some items or adjust some?
I haven't played around with it in much detail but I know what you are talking about. The M display is very nice in HUD but I'm mostly in M1/2 Is it worth contacting Bimmer Code? I'd imagine they'd make the change much quicker. The red tape in BMW to do something like this would be insane Edit: just sent this thread to Bimmer Code so will see what they say |
