Break-in Period

Good day gents. Taking delivery of a ‘22 X6 40i tomorrow and am wanting to add the Race Chip piggyback. Is there a set time I should wait to break the car in (miles) before adding or is it safe to do right away? Thanks in advance.

break-in notes are in the manual. It's kinda moot to add the chip early since it's recommended to take it easy until 1200 miles. one may be tempted to just floor it, but if you can hold yourself back, go for it.

Thanks for the tip. I'm am in no means in any type of rush. I just know I am going to want the "boost" down the line.

One needs to ask if all the new vehicles used for test rides and demos that are thrashed with 10 miles on them blow up or have major problems down the road.

yah, break-in is a hotly debated topic. some abide by it. some don't. I'm not interested in going down that road of discussion.

Well luckily I bought the vehicle while it was enroute to the dealership. So no test drives have been done on my unit. It shouldn’t have more than 5 or 6 miles on it when I pick it up.

HaHa! Again. I got lucky. No test drives before me. I got it right off the truck with only 6 miles on it.

Sorry to disappoint you Pal. Got mine less than 24 hours after it rolled off the truck with 6 miles on it.

And do you think in those 6 miles, it wasn't floored a few times???
Come on, please.

Yeah, right. You must be unaware of the fact that new vehicles arrive at the dealer with that many miles on them.
Do you think BMW takes every vehicle they produce for a 6 mile thrill ride? LMFAO Who is naοve here my friend?

INB4 this becomes a complete shit show of people who bought their X5 calling people who lease an X5 trash renters, and people who leased their X5 who call people who bought their X5 stupid for wasting money on a depreciating asset BECAUSE THIS ALWAYS TURNS INTO THAT.

That said, I lease and I am trying my best to go easy on it during the early days. eBoost from the transmission is kinda cool, if for no other reason than it seems cool. Not sure how much torque it produces, I thought hp was 11 or so (?).

I'd love to see some real, honest statistics. I know when I test drive - if it's a brand new car with little mileage, I won't drive it like I stole it. I'm probably the rare guy though..I mean, I actually hand wash and check the oil levels too..

I do not hammer new cars on test rides either. Pushing the accelerator 1/2 way quickly gives an instant idea of the torque and tells me what I need to know.
Yes, I hand wash, hand wax, and do a bunch of other stuff myself.

Listen Bud, I know and have seen BMW vehicles come off the boat at Port Hueneme in Oxnard. They are actually driven on city streets from the boat to the VPC about 2 miles down the road. The people that do this are paid by the amount of vehicles they can drive between those two locations. They often have hundreds of vehicles to move. The more vehicles they can move, the MORE pay they make.
So they do in fact (I asked a couple of them) have their foot to the floor ) within reason of course) any chance they can get.

If you can't understand that, it is what it is.

Well OK then, there you have it folks.
BMW beats up on every new vehicle they build, "Bob" said so. I'm sure we are all clear as glass on that one!
Thanks "Bud".

It doesn't matter whether you install it before or after break-in period.
It is down to how hard you are driving it during the break-in period.

Besides, there is no break-in period on non M cars.

Hmm, I pick my M50i up Friday and its a 695 mile trip.

nZtiZia - Im gonna keep it well south of the 100 mph, should be good on tires and brakes, but no kick down is going to be a struggle. Yeah, I know - You warned me!

Current:
Floored my new x5 no less than 10x in the first 2 days. also hit 140mph on the way home.

Previous cars:
-2017 Macan S - floored it no less than 50x in the first 3 days. Did 35 minutes of going all out, 100% on the Nurburgring during my ED. No less than 3 hours of going 100+ mph on the Autobahn. No problems with the car for the next 4 years with regular maintenance until I traded it in for my current car

-2012 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track - I was 21, what is break in?

This is it in a nutshell. Scores of guys will relate the same with absolutely no problems years later. Amazing how some see these "break in" BS guidelines as gospel.
Who has had problems due to not abiding by the break in rules?
I've had more brand new vehicles than I can remember at this point and drove every one of them the way I pleased and never had an issue.
