Ok, who loaned the Angry Water Fowl their cars? :-)

Somewhat surprised that the Fowl said some good things.

There was a lot of good info in there...I always prefer more driving impression vs interior impressions, but I do like how they get into the technical bits of the car while up on a lift.

Much of the moaning from ‘journalists’ about the base comes down to the TQ#’s and where peak TQ is delivered in the powerband. There is no other significant change to differentiate the cars. It is the tuning of the TQ which will be fixed with a minor tune.

Also good that they weighed the car, base manual w/o carbon buckets & brakes was 3777lbs.

They almost seem disappointed that it's a good car.

I do enjoy their reviews though.... regardless of how biased they tend to be. I appreciate the technical knowledge and the occasional deadpan humor.

Considering how they hated the F8x platform this is really high praise!

I don't really like their BMW reviews. Its never good enough and sometimes its too good. They can't be satisfied. I'll probably watch it anyway but as a BMW enthusiast its very annoying.

I like these guys but there's no doubt Mark is not a BMW fan. I haven't seen the video yet but can anyone that's seen it tell me if I'm far off as I expect he said any and all of below;
  • the car is doing to much of the work
  • no emotional attachment
  • too engineered
  • fast and immensely capable but numb

He is right about some of this but that's just the reality of today's cars.

Solid review from a couple of guys who wouldn't be considered big BMW M fans (to say the least).

As we've heard many times, big upgrade over the F8x in drive and everyday usability. These guys actually liked it meaningfully more on the track than on the street. That's the complete opposite of what you'd expect given all the complaints about size and weight.

As the car depreciates, I wouldn't be surprised to see many of today's detractors end up in one. It drives too well and incorporates too many learnings from the failings of previous generations to ignore it forever.

On the F8x they complained about the ride quality and being too stiff, now they're complaining because it's too soft. :

SavageGeese definitely aren't die-hard BMW fans, which isn't a surprise since they prioritize cars with strong emotional connections and classic characteristics, which haven't been focal points for modern BMWs. SavageGeese has had some BMWs they liked though, particularly this M Coupe:

Too biased. I find savage geese reviews "difficult" to watch. Guy seems a tad off to me.

Love these guys for their impossible standards. I didn't think their review would be so positive based on their recent depressing content about how driving is being abstracted out of cars by software.

Hand them a Lexus, they'll blow loads all over the 11 speed automatic gear selector.

The G8X is a badass machine no matter what they say or how big the big buck tooth grills are...

Owned. And he wasn't very complimentary to it at the end of his time with it, if I recall.

That's the point. They don't have your BMW bias; which is what makes them that much more credible.

Let's tell the whole story; shall we - they complained about it being a bit soft on the track; but actually said the ride was superb on the road and very well damped.

Agreed. I think they are the best non-journo ("influencer") reviewers by a long shot.

I'm a true G80 style hater but I gathered that they felt it was the absolute best modern BMW driving experience.

It came off as very high praises IMO, but if you opt for this car you have to own your choice to parade around in a car with two kickboards taped to the front bumper. Meanwhile I suppose you can enjoy the shit out of the engineering marvel that it is.

I'm legitimately jealous of the people who like the way it looks because there is very little to rival its performance chops in its price range. Alas it isn't for me and that's ok…we'd all be worse off if the car was universally acclaimed for its looks but handled and drove like crap.

One of only reviewers I know that actually look underneath cars and gives good insight, reaches out to manufacturers for technical questions. If I could get around the front end, I'd be so close to jumping into one. Curious how it compares to the M5 from a daily stand point. Price aside.
