Lightest G82 M4 spec on scales: 1679kg, 3702lbs

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I didn't see a thread discussing the real world weight of the car. Many people (rightfully) critizise the weight, but most of the discussions were not based on real numbers. Misha Charoudin just posted a new video with impressions of the new G82 on the Nürburgring. He's living (and driving) at the Ring and his laps are in the thousands, so he knows what he's talking about.

General impressions are good, just the alignment needs a fix as the car feels to understeery. It offers a great baseline for a trackcar, once some basic modifications are done. But you should watch the video if you want to have feedback on the car on the track. It's currently on preview for channel members, will update this thread with a link once the video is published.

The car itself is probably the lightes spec you can get:
  • M4 6MT
  • Carbon Ceramic Brakes
  • 20" Forged Wheels
  • Carbon bucket seats
  • only extended leather
  • standard soundsystem
  • only LED lights
  • exterior and interior CF
It doesn't get much lighter than that with a stock car. With a full tank and no driver, the weight on the scales came out to:
  • Front left: 435.0kg, 959lbs
  • Front right: 447.5kg, 987lbs
  • Rear left: 402.0kg, 886lbs
  • Rear right: 394.5kg, 870lbs
  • TOTAL: 1679kg, 3702lbs
  • Front/back distribution: 52.56% - 47.44%

No, but you can't order 18/19 with the ceramic brakes. I'm not sure if it's just BMW forcing the more expensive wheels, or if it physically does not fit.

At 1679kg add 75kg (for the EU rating) = 1754KG and what 40kg for the ceramics and carbon buckets and you get back to 1794kg (EU) which is around what BMW quote.

I don't see anything to see here.

ah, interesting. Any idea how much the weight difference is between standard brakes and carbon ceramics?

On the M2 CS the CCBs save about 42lbs versus the standard 2NH brakes.

The carbon seats in the M3/4 save 21lbs.

So add 63lbs yielded 3765lbs without those options.

The result here lines up with Car and Driver's measure of a similar configured M4 (CCB, carbon seats) where they measured 3709 lbs.

I believe you are underestimating the difference. The weight penalty of M2 “big brakes” has been measured at ~27lb while the weight penalty of CCB has been measured at ~18lb, for a total of ~46lb. Since the G8X brakes are a bit bigger, I expect a slightly bigger difference.

I was using this chart from BMW for the M2 CS:

...and then a bit of calculations:

Front
Disc: 30.6 – 17.1 = 13.5
13.5 x 2 = 27
Caliper: 15.4 – 16.3 = -0.9
-0.9 x 2 = - 1.8
Front total: 27 + (– 1.8) = 25.2 lbs

Rear
Disc: 20.5 – 11.9 = 8.6 lbs
8.6 x 2 = 17.2 lbs
Caliper: 14.7 – 14.5 = 0.2 lbs
Rear total: 17.2 + 0.2 = 17.4 lbs

Total weight savings: 25.2 + 17.4 = 42.6 lbs

Isn’t that the data from the M5?

The F8X don’t have a single piston floating rear caliper...

Ah, yeah, maybe it is. It was posted in an M2 CS thread as pertaining to the CS...

Little doubt then that the AWD will clock in at over 4K. Crazy times.

Despite the headline number… this is still too much for a sports car !
Stop adding power, and focus on losing weight, as well as enhancing the emotional aspect of driving a car !
Otherwise buy anything to go from point A to B…

That weight seems very close to the E92 DCT with the carbon roof.

Impressive. 3700 is what my E92 M3 weighted at. This car is a beast at those weights and those power figures.

Just as a follow up, I was going with the information published in this thread: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1497066

However, looking at it deeper, I came to realize that the the rear M2C big brake rotor weights were misrepresented. It seems that they have taken the front blue rotor weight for the rear grey one.

Using data published by Essex and Evolve, and recalculating with the revised M2C rear rotor weight I get those difference between the F8X brake systems:
18.2lb Blue vs CCB
27.5lb Blue vs Grey
45.7lb Grey vs CCB

I've edited my previous posts in this thread accordingly.

As a reference for F8X brakes:

How do you get 4k pounds from the 3700 base? The AWD isn't going to be 300+ lbs more. It's already known it will be 100-150 lbs more

Yes the awd system will inevitably add 250-300lbs to this car, just wait! Why do you think that bmw hasn't told us the weight figures of the 4x4 cars yet..?
