Joe Achilles: F82 vs G82 BMW Competition Old vs New | Drag Race & Track Battle | 4K

BIMMERPOST

Enjoy! Again not the most scientific comparison, both the "road course" and the drag distance are too short, nevertheless thanks a lot to Joe and his friends who made this happened.

(Remarks: hope the forum admin is happy about the sharing in this sub forum and the title name )

I just watched this too. Good comparison but not too scientific of course. Still good to see that the F82 did well unlike what many people think that it'll get destroyed in every comparison.

This proves that the improvement in G8x launch traction is marginal. You're simply not going to hit 60mph in 3.6s every time in a RWD car.

I'm not surprised about this. I've stated that previously that F8X generation was a huge leaps and bounds of engineering technology and felt that the G8X generation was a huge cost cutting effort but compensated by putting more power.

Cost cutting efforts like:
1) No more DCT and replaced with a ZF
2) No CF Drive Shaft and replaced with a 50mm driveshaft
3) No CF brace in the front and have normal steel bars
4) Floating Brake caliper instead of fixed in the F8X
5) Increase of weight

None the less, the G8X is a good evolution of the F8X with the traction control system, brake ducts, and upgraded interior.

Just not a fan of the front still.

I actually really enjoy these small comparisons. Very similar numbers here, good showing of both cars, maybe especially that the bigger and heavier G82 can hang with the F82 in such low speed, twisting circumstances. Also very interesting that the G82 is the car with more oversteer character vs an understeering F82.

I would have thought with 60 additional hp and newer/better technology the G80 would've easily beaten the F80 but it looks like the extra weight of the G80 made it a close race. This shows how good the F80 was and still is.

This also shows that the G80 suffers the same traction issues as the F80 and if I was getting the G80, it'd be with AWD.

Ugh gotta say I’m not a massive fan of this guy, but before every one starts arguing about F8X vs G8X, they are just v1 and v2 of fundamentally the same car - implicitly, v2 is always going to be the better car objectively. Subjectively it’s going to depend on the driver and their preferences. Plus, we all know someone who’s got a track spec E36 that would absolutely run laps around us in our F/G8Xs

Two epic cars! Cool video and no surprise the F8X did well, it will go down in history as a favorite no doubt, but the advancements and interior of the G8X to still be that fast with the extra weight is amazing. AWD is going to be a monster.

The F82 comp is holding up very well with proper tire (still under tired to the G82).

Not much to make out of the lap time as the author is no pro driver. However the drag race sees a quite surprising outcome. Joe blames the ZF8, which IMO is incorrect. Traction aside, it's actually the laggy S58 that's very much at fault for the the kick-down, in-gear and from still pull. As seen from every single other drag race - the S58 car has always been the "underdog" and crawled its way back to win.

Seems like he ignored the fact that he spent quite a bit of time going sideways in the G80 which wouldn't help his lap time much.

I don't know... he is just using launch control right... ? So driver is barely involved except for reaction time letting off the brake.

I can't say for G8x, but launch control in F8x was not the most reliable .

His idea to let the other guy get a jump makes no sense, at all. This video is the first time I thought he's not serious about what he's doing.

The most striking thing about this video, IMO, is how much better G82 looks. It has presence, it looks mean and ready to swallow the road
I loved the the F82, but next to the new car, it looks.. kind of dull.

This just makes me want to test drive cars around tracks all day...

End of the day, both of these cars rock. You can't go wrong with either

When the camera frame jumped from F82 to G82 around 00:18 my mouth dropped with how bloated and whale like the G82 looked. Specifically the rear quarter area.
