CarPlay, but still mostly use inbuilt nav for the better HUD integration.

Just got my 128 - so you can mix and match? I would like to use Carplay for music and the BMW nav system if that works! But can you still talk to iDrive?

Absolutely. You actually have 3 voice options:
1) Hey BMW
2) Hey Siri
3) Alexa

CarPlay for everything, I find Music/Podcasts/Nav etc so much easier to interact with.

How do you set it up to do both, not been able to figure it out.

Whenever I use CarPlay for music, its automatically CarPlay for nav options as well.

Just hit the Nav button, setup the BMW nav as you want, then hit the CarPlay icon in the top left to go back into CarPlay. You should still have nav instructions on the cluster / HUD.

By "cluster" you mean the bit behind the steering wheel, rather than the big screen I assume?

Didn't spec the HUD, have it in my X5 and rarely look at it so thought it was a waste of money....

Having the texts/whatsapp messages via CarPlay is useful, so want to keep that, but google maps and apple maps I find not even close to the BMW system.

Google maps incapable of retaining a destination if you have to stop along the route for anything that involves switching the engine off, and apple maps doesn't do the 3D perspective view the way the BMW ones do.

Will keep messing about with it to get something that feels right.
