Mirror Tap

Anyone know which wire to tap for switched power (off when car is off). I tapped the red/black wire but it looks like the radar detector is still on after the car turns off.

Update: Never mind, apparently it turns off after a few minutes.

On the big connect it's the left most (brwn/blk for ground and right most reddish/pink for 12v). All the trim pieces pull of relatively easy.

Found this out when I tried to use a radar detector in my car for a long drive. It turns out the 12v port is much deeper than normal, and the center pole of the 12v adapter can't touch the bottom. I balled up some aluminum foil and just sent it, seems to work just fine for now.

i had the same issue with my front 12v port, first i managed to blow the fuse messing around with it and had to find and replace it (fuse 46 in the front passenger fuse box btw), then ended up adding a little solder to the tip of my charging adapter to make it touch.

took mine to dealer yesterday and they were able to swap out that screw at the bottom of the 12 v port. The new screw is 1-2 mm longer than the original.

I used these from Amazon and had no issues removing the cover and did not break any clips.

I can't seem to get the mirror cover off, what direction should I be pulling/prying to get it to release? the 2 halves seem to be attached pretty well.

I used a flat tool to separate them, they just pop off with a little pressure. No clips broke when I gently forced them apart

I actually tapped into the Red connector behind the black. Gave me more room to coil up and hide the extra wire. Works flawlessly

It's pretty straight forward the shell is 2 pieces that wraps around the electronics attached to the windshield. I used an ifixit pick: https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/i.../IF145-123?o=2
Starting at shell's seam furthest from the mirror insert the pick and move it toward the mirror it will pop apart the clips. I had to tilt the mirror to get in on an angle to pop the seam that is right behind the mirror. Once the seam clips are popped off you can separate the shell.

What’s a few minutes? I left my car on lock what it felt like 3 minutes and it didn’t power down. Does your start when you turn on your car? Mine doesn’t I have to manually power on.

should shut off around 6 min?

Which detector are you using? If its the valentine 1 Gen 2 then there is a known issue around it automatically powering on.

No. It's an issue with your detector.

When you turn the car the power is being delivered to the radar, but it's not automatically turning on. If there was a wiring issue it wouldn't turn on at all
