With the dyno testing done it was time to see what the car was doing in the real world. To do this we use dragy as it is the most widely accepted method in the community, allowing us to carry out a variety of acceleration tests.

We also compare it to the F80 M3, both in stock and tuned form, to see how it stacks up.

Those are numbers I was really interested in! About what I expected though, not too impressed. Unless for some reason this car with FBO is significantly faster than the F80, I don't see any reason to get it over an F80. At least until AWD.

when people start tuning these things its going to be insane based From what I seen with the x3Mc peeps already over on that forum. But for me the stock set up is more then enough power.

Evolve guys are putting out a lot of initial info for us all, much appreciated guys

On pump gas, a Stage2 F80 gets at most ~500whp, a stage 2 X3Mc gets 600whp. Tuned to tuned the gap will be even bigger

Well there's a whole new chassis and interior. The car also seems to put power down much better than the F80, which could be the new power band or traction tuning. More to a car than just dyno numbers.

Absolutely. Power is nothing without traction. 3.66 0-60 MPH is great for a stock RWD car.

Will do a proper review against the F80 but the G80 chassis is a huge improvement.

Someone needs to bypass the ECU Bosch Mag1 low level bootloader that now has a special encryption chip installed at the Bosch factory prior to the tunes rolling out.

Have any X3M zcp ECU's been successfully flashed after July 2020?

Remember, that the motherland monitors this forum like a hawk.

I didn't know that, I personally dont know anyone who has a tune on their x3M I was just referring to the post I have seen on the x3M forums. So mid cycle they updated the encryption? is that what you are saying, which in turn makes it harder/currently not possible to tune the newer models? interesting, ill have to chat with our service director about that and get up to date

Yes. I'm not sure the exact month, but I think about June 2020 cars to now can't be tuned (yet), although workarounds and such are probably just around the corner.

Come on people!! Does it really matter what the 0-60 times are ??? BMW is about overall driving dynamics- ALL M cars are GT's not sports car, they are certainly not drag cars- If all we care about is 0-60 times then don't buy non EV. Go buy an EV they will get you 0-60 faster then any patrol engine will. Does anyone really need more then 500HP for an road car?? No! I would hope that all the money you are paying for an G8X it's just not going towards how fast I can drag off the line but overall driving experience- Let's just have fun driving around and modifying our cars to our own personal taste. The HP wars are over!!

Don't assume that the same tuning headroom is available. There is a fundamental limit to what can be achieved based on the combination of compression ratio and fuel octane. The S58 has a lower CR so will tolerate a higher BMEP (torque) at a given fuel octane, so that's good and explains some of the difference between the engines. But BMW is also delivering the engine in a much higher state of tune from the factory (meaning higher BMEP), mostly driven by marketing since I'm sure they decide what HP/TQ number that needs to be hit, and the engine gets tuned accordingly.

"The reason for the update is connected to improved security for autonomous driving and other driving assistance features and keeping hackers away from potentially intervening with the vehicle's systems. The lock has been introduced in the bootloader of the ECU and is implemented on processor level, which means that "bench unlocking" with direct access on the ECU is no longer possible.

The outcome of this situation means for newly manufactured cars that the following options are no longer possible:

No OBD unlock
No bench unlock
No bootpin unlock
No ECU remapping"

An other route will be a BMW engineer selling out to a German tuner. Too much money out there besides just tuning the DME such as deleting CEL when installing DP's— this affects a majority of the aftermarket parts industry.

it's just easiest to check and get a concrete benchmark number. Also your average bear can launch a car 0-60 but everyone's on track experience will differ so I don't mind getting these numbers.

Yea but it could literally take years which makes the f80 attractive still from a tuning standpoint but the g80 is making enough power stock.

This is bad news! I was so hoping to Smoke some AWD high HP M cars. Guess I will have to give them and 7-8 car head start
