He said it, he actually said it, he actually called it a "small m5."

Nice! Sounds like most are on the same page with the new auto over the DCT. If you tick the manual it sounds like this car will be damn near perfect as the reviews of the chassis and interior are very high. As long as you like or love the looks as I do it should be epic!

This review is not so positive for me, with M5-like mentioned more than once.

But then you have others that say it's not like a smaller M5. It feels like you're hanging your feelings about the M3/M4 over this one video despite there being different opinions. Not trying to persuade you one way or the other but you're best off test driving it yourself to form your own opinion/conclusion of the M3/M4.

Whoa, the fanbois are out once anything smelling negative is in the air, they rush in like hyenas ... presumptuous too. First, who is "hanging" on this one video? (I have given the thumbs up to videos that are complimentary of the G8X). Secondly, who is placing too much weight on another's opinion? Lastly, posters who comment on videos will not test drive the G8X - what logic is that?

Relax, fanbois. This is a forum for discussion and to give views.

How does saying, "judge everything for yourself," make anybody a fan boi? It's a suggestion that holds merit. I was speaking generally regarding taking a reviewer's subjective opinions with a grain of salt.

A few take aways from this video.

The new car is really quick. Good chassis and predictability will be welcome on track.

I am still happy I chose manual.

Perhaps read what you posted and what the reply was? Your exact words were that the review was a negative for you because the video mentioned the M3/M4 was a smaller M5 multiple times. Fine. All I said was other reviews said the complete opposite so you shouldn't base your opinion completely on this one review unless you already made up your mind on the M3/M4 in which case you'll take any opinion that reinforces your feelings.

Like the car, hate the car. Buy the car, don't buy the car. Why do I care? I already stated that I'm not trying to persuade you. But if you or anyone is a real prospective buyer, you and anyone else should just go test drive the car yourself and form your own opinion instead of listening to reviews which all have conflicting opinions.

Not sure how any of that is a display of fanboyism.

It's kind of both. For what it is, and relative to other new offerings it's good. But if you don't want a "baby m5" and you really like the character of the DCT, it's possibly not for you. I would 110% get the MT over the zf8 if it were me. Last performance sedan with a MT ever anyway. EDIT: Maybe not, Cadillac has the Black Wing cars.

The most compelling thing to me is I could order it individual exactly as I want it, and that's not a good enough reason to buy a new car.

Totally respect your personal opinion if that's not the type of car you're looking for but the reviewer in the video clearly meant it as high praise... not sure how people pointing that out makes them fanboi hyenas 🤣🤣 maybe if he didn't say a 'lighter more nimble m5' it could've been seen as a neutral comment for sure. This whole let's pretend the m5 isn't a phenomenal car because we don't like the G8x act is rather ridiculous lol

bm323, your first post was OK and the responses were OK. The way a forum works. I'm not sure where your second post comes from unless you are a hater and are here just to stir up $hit.

I think the anti g8x crowd is kind of running out of material with all the good reviews coming out. Still a completely valid opinion obviously that they don't like the car and it isn't for them but now that it's released and there's reviews for it what else can you really say...the whole speculation part is mostly over. The pro g80 crowd is all collecting their cars and talking about features and setups and tunes and whatnot now

I don't understand this debate, some say the M3 feels like a smaller M5 but some others say it feels like a bigger M2
lets take a look at the M lineup
Bigger than M2 = M3
Smaller than M5= M3
Shocking they might be talking about the same car.....

Side note: he mentioned different track and center of gravity for the M4 vs M3? I know that is the case for the standard 4 series vs 3 series but was that the case for the M twins? would be the first I have seen that referenced.

Without any reviewer going into detail in what they mean, when they say a "smaller M5" or "M5-like", I'm guessing most are taking it in a negative light as it pertains to to the M3/M4 and not necessarily where the M3/M4 sits in the line up of M cars.

Being a smaller M5 people will believe that it's just a 0-60 car with power. Combine that with the increased size and weight, people are coming to a conclusion that may not necessarily be accurate - proven by the numerous reviews that say it is/it's not just a smaller M5.

If it's just a smaller M5 it won't beat the Giulia QF on a tight track.

But yes it is somehow a smaller M5 and a larger M2. That's what the M3/M4 is, and that's what it needs to be in my opinion.

Wait till you watch reviews of the M xDrive M3/M4 in a couple of months and I bet more & more reviewers will say it's like a smaller M5. It won't bother me because I kind of know what to expect.

He's good at doing vmax runs but I would take his "track review" with a grain of salt.

Definitely looking forward to more reviews of the new M3/M4 on the track from fellow forum members, especially the manual transmission variant

Do you take that to be good or bad? In between? I'm confused by it.

Either way, it sounds like an excellent chassis!

If you've spent a lot of time driving the F87 M2 and F90 M5, I think you'll strongly favor one or the other depending on your preferences and priorities. I am a huge fan of both cars in all their forms (except M5 CS, I haven't ever been in one yet so I don't have an opinion yet) but they drive very differently. I doubt anybody could drive an M2 and an M5 and have a hard time chosing one over the other because they are so different, each of us would strongly prefer one or the other I would imagine.

If an M3/M4 is a "larger M2" then it's very nimble and agile, fun to slide around, a little harsh on shitty roads.

If it's a "smaller M5" then it's very smooth and comfortable but its cornering responses are a little dull and delayed, hugely powerful in a straight line but a little less exciting to throw into corners and ride the limits of grip.
