Got It! - Portimao Blue G80 M3 Competition Delivered

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
All,
Excited to share initial pictures of my pickup on Friday.

Here are the specs, and some pics to highlight a few things.
The car looks even better in person, the colors are amazing, and the initial driving experience it awesome. I have had an E90 M3 Manual for 12 years now with many years of track time, and its a completely different driving experience... all upgraded is the simplest way i can describe it.

Can't wait to take it to the track and really experience it to the fullest.

Looks great and congrats! Bold choice to go with blue on blue but I think it turned out well.

Looks great! Congrats

I might go with Portimao Blue on my build too.

Why did you get the base wheel setup?

I feel ya on the black interiors. I've had them on so many of my cars now. I'm leaning towards going with SPY/YMB combo to go bold all around. I'm slightly hesitant with YMB interior given that I got two kids under 7 but I think overall it should be fine.

Great question, I learned a lot from my first M car over the past 12 years (E90 Manual) with winter driving and track driving experiences and lessons learned.

I ended up in the beginning with 3 sets of wheel/tire sets for my E90 for year round daily driving and enjoyment:
1. Factory wheels that eventually got winter tires mounted on them.
2. Summer rim & tires for UHP enjoyment most of the year. All Season UHP tires didn't exist back in the early 2010-2012 timeframe.
3. Track rims and tires in an 18" square setup. Larger sidewalls for track needs, lower cost, easier rotation options to use up all the rubber on all 4 rims before having to buy track tires again....

I want to avoid having 3 more stacks of rims in the garage, and get it down to 2 sets of rims this time around now that they make Pilot Sport UHP All Season tires.
1. Factory - 18"/19" combo to give me best balance of year round use with All Season UHP tires and daily driving comfort when required.
2. Track - 18" square setup again.

Hope this helps.

I bet this will be one of the most unique combos, blue on blue and an $89k build with standard wheels. Really nice to see someone knowing what they want and don’t give 2c of what others think.

When do you think you will hit the track? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts

Been wondering, what's that little circular thing on the left kidney grill? I see it on certain models but not others.

Radar for adaptive cruise control. It's part of the the active driving assistance pro.

Congrats. Your build looks great with Blue/Blue and I like your logic on the 18/19" wheel spec.

Nice looking car. I'm thinking of the PB, I love it. My only hesitation is that many people order this on the M340i and I want this to stand out! Having not seen the M3 in person yet, does it look special/different enough and instantly recognizable as an M3?...certainly looks so on the pics.

I can confirm with a resounding YES! I put down my deposit on Day 1 of the launch back in September 2020 ... and reading these forums got me anxious that the color I really wanted was not going to be an exclusive M color like my Jerez Black E90 was at the time ....

I certainly say driving to the dealer Friday night and pulling up to the parking spot and seeing my new baby there made me smile so big and also have a sigh of relief that it instantly was recognizable as an M car ....

Also, after seeing the M340i in exact color nearby on the lot, the bold M3 grill, the side profile, the backend with those fat tail pipes ... and then the SOUND with all the settings maxed out at Sport+ including the shift points at D3 or S3 .... this thing looks and drives and sounds like a beast .... no after market exhaust mods planned after just 1 day driving around on the highway and back country roads.

Get the colors and options that truly stir you, it all comes together better than you expected.

Best Wishes!

Looks great. Congrats! Doing PB too though I'm going with the 825M Orbit Grey wheels, another I have yet to see on the PB, with the red calipers. I was going to do the YAS interior, but I'm opting for the Fjord Blue instead. The red calipers would have been too much with the YAS so you were smart to stick with the blue. Enjoy it and tell us more about your thoughts overall!

Finally, some nice pics of the base wheels. They look great, and that's a very unique combo. Congrats on the car!

Sounds good! You got it all figured out

Please post more pics when you get a chance, specially ones that show the CF against Portimao Blue if you can! I plan to spend the $4700 for the M carbon exterior pack but everyone things in crazy. I haven't seen it on PB though!

PB is the way to go. I went with the Bi-Color 826 and full black Marino leather with executive package. I should have mine in the garage sometime today. Ill be on the road to Charleston S.C. tomorrow and back to Virginia on Wednesday for my 1200 mile service.

Here you go. Let me know what specific items you still want to see.
I would recommend the investment. To get the equivalent of after market carbon fiber accessories would cost well over $5000 installed. I think it's a bargain at $4700.

It's just not worth that crazy $4700. You get a few pieces of CF. If they included the side skirts, grill, and other shiny black pieces, perhaps... but you don't even get CF on the side plates! Wait for aftermarket and you'll get them all for a fraction of that price. I also think the spoiler is a bit too small. It just doesn't seem to compliment those big side skirts and the other front and rear plastics which are all quite large. I'll look for aftermarket, maybe a 1/2 or 1" taller.
