I drove exclusely in Sport+ to always have the privilege of matching my own revs. It's not easy (for a simpleton like me at least) to go from doing it to not doing it to doing it depending on what throttle map you're in. This is a HUGE plus for me.

So its a carryover with the option of turning off rev match. That could be tricky because in my F82, the throttle mapping was different in each engine mode was different so a blip in sport+ would not be the same blip in efficient.

I was really hoping they would offer a 7spd but I guess not. In the end, they are the only ones offering a MT so I will have to buy whay they offer lol.

you must have a later model because my 2016 did NOT rev match in Sport+. I also prefer a 6MT versus a 7MT.

Looking forward to Episode # 208: "TPMS. M3 and M4 - Explained"

Maybe after that, we will all have enough product knowledge to understand proper drive reviews!

I'm very glad BMW kept the manual, and I'd say it's because of the North American market only.

And FINALLY, they allow owners to turn on/off auto rev match. Something that just should have been available from day one in the F generation.

So, it's literally the same identical unit from the F8X but now they included some software to toggle the rev-matching..

Whatever; as long as they still offer a manual option, I could live with this..

That's not a bad thing that it's just a beefed up version. I find the MT in the F8X to be a really good manual.

The Cadillac CT Blackwings are coming so no BMW is not the only one. I do wish BMW spent a little more R&D on the manual though.

For reals.. I'm not disappointed one bit, I mean, it would nice if they had unveiled something new, like an extra gear or something but I'm thankful for small mercies to even have a manual option in a 2021 MY BMW.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same gearbox passed down from the E generation also.. They just changed the flywheel and clutch and used the electric throttle to control the rev-matching..

But..Like..Whatever

I think you're right because if I remember correctly, BMW believed they wouldn't even need a manual at this point. Development slowed and so every modern BMW stick I've driven, from an E generation on, feels pretty much the same.

For those wanting 7MT, why? Have you driven 7MT?

I would much rather have a 6MT box.

The manual components are always similar with slight adjustments for the new engine, flywheel and physical location of the shifter.

Things I heard that were different, no rev match, possibly different effort level on shift, new engine flange with larger starter gear rim, reinforced crankshaft with 4 metal plates.

Dear Karsten & team, thank you for allowing us to turn off rev-matching in the various drive modes and for keeping the manual transmission alive for this generation.

Great video!!!

We are truly lucky BMW is still offering the 6MT in a 2021 new car. For just 70k you can have one.

The F8X tranny had work done on it vs the E9X which is why it didn't need external cooling. I'm not surprised they took this same one with some minor modifications for the G8X.

I will definitely have one of these before long. 6MT for the win!

Because cruising down the highway in 6th at 80mph and 3kish rpm is no fun. In this regard the DCT is much better.

That would be the only reason, at least in my book.

Agreed. That probably is the only way to make the MT better.

I have driven a 992 C2S MT. It is probably the only car that has a better MT than the F80/F82. I thought the 991 was on par but I liked the 7th gear for the highway.
