Modified 2014 BMW 550i XDrive Pricing

Hello All, I am a long time lurker of this forum and BimmerPost in general. I own a 2014 BMW 550i XDrive with 60k miles w/ nearly all of the factory options. I have owned the car for nearly 3 years now with little to no problems. Unfortunately I am interested in parting ways with the car. With that being said, how do I value the modifications?

The car has: Pure Stage 1 Upgraded Turbos, VRSF Catted Downpipe, DME Stage 2 Tune, all new coil packs and spark plugs. A bunch more maintenance completed within the last year to keep the car as reliable as possible. The car dynoed at 470whp and 495wtq here in Colorado on a very very conservative tune and pump gas.

I understand KBB in my area is valuing the car from 23-25k. I also know that its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it being modified.

Any help on how to value this car?

Typically, you won't get retail value for the car. Private party value is a common price for most cars. Some case, it may even go less than that. I have purchased several vehicles at trade in value from a dealer before so it is hard to say. Since yours have mods, you can shoot for KBB retail value and drop it until you find the right buyer.

Unfortunately, the only people that are going to give you a penny over KBB Private Party value are car enthusiasts that will look at what you have in the car as added value. Last time I checked my car's value (similar to yours) it came to $19K - $22K. Outside of this small group, you're actually likely to get less for it because the majority see non-stock cars as risky purchases.

This is the unfortunate truth of customized cars. You should always assume that every penny you put in aftermarket parts toward the car is a loss, not an investment.

Price it a little higher than KBB/NADA/Edmunds average Private Party value and start listing it on here or similar enthusiast forums. See what offers you get and adjust from there.

Unfortunately, mods can actually substantially hurt resale value outside of the car enthusiast community, and even among the community you're catering to a small subset of them who see your mods as mods they want. Average buyers will see the upgraded turbos and not think "ohhh more power" they'll think "damn, this car needed new turbos already? Wonder when the engine will go". That's typically why many keep the stock parts and return the car to stock when they sell and then sell off the mods to recoup some value.
