Looking for some wisdom and advice...

This forum is always a good source of help and advice, peppered with abuse and banter...

So I sold my 335 xd touring ahead of getting a new 140i which was due before xmas. This is now looking more like end of January.

So my question is should I sit it out another month and wait for a 17 plate on 1st March? It's a cash purchase so no finance. Will it make much difference to the resale value for a Jan/Feb 66 plate v a Mar 17 plate?

Thanks in advance.

It will probably be worth an extra £500 in 2 to 3 years time if you do.

As long as you've got transport for the extra month, I would.

Thanks NISFAN. I guess c.£15 a month over three years isn't a great deal in the scheme of things. I'll squeeze the dealer for some M performance goodies as they did make the deal for the new car on the basis of a build slot meaning a pre-Xmas delivery.

When do the higher VED rates take effect? Is it March or April?

If you took it early you know what'll happen- as soon as you spot that first 17 plate 140i you'll say "bugger" very quietly to yourself. Hang on man!

When my Focus RS was available end July, I took it immediately......6weeks of summer time driving was worth the cost / lack of a 66plate IMO.

but, its the depths of winter....so, if i were you now, I would await the 1st march

Why wait, it's only letters on a plastic plate? Who cares about having the latest plate for a few months, it will bo old and out of date within six months anyway.

Get it collected and run in ASAP, so you can enjoy the driving!

I'd be more concerned about how they're storing it for that long rather than the plate. Is it indoors or outside?

I've never waited and have often picked up cars a only a few weeks before the new reg, are people really hung up about a "17 plate" as per some of the posts above?

I find that a bit curtain twitcher/Mrs Bucket if I'm honest.

I was in a similar situation to you. Can't remember exactly but in end the I bargained with the dealer and he gave about £500 off the car plus another £500 from my part x to take it early. I took it a few days before Christmas. Suggest you have a chat with them. I also bought a private plate with the cash saved!

I may have this wrong but will the M140i not be one of those cars the new tax rates work better for especially when it comes to resale. As it's less than 40k it doesn't have the annual supplement boosting up how much tax you pay. From somewhere I worked out except in the first year the annual tax goes down which might help resale. You still pay more as the first year is the issue but not the same issues as cars over 40k. I might have done my maths wrong but I'm sure someone will correct me lol
