Takata Recall and the E9X

Hey folks,
Got the word today at after an urgent e-mail from my BMW sales guy that BMW is recalling a number of models due to Takata and their f**kery. Apparently it is a voluntary recall on BMW's part, but also means that the 335is I was planning to buy off of lease is no longer possible--they aren't legally allowed to sell these cars after lease.
Just seeing if anyone got word of this with certain models. I had read this on Auto Blog weeks prior, but didn't know it was this serious. Now it's time to decide on the next car...
Here is a link to the Auto Blog site that shows the vehicles affected http://www.autoblog.com/2016/02/11/b...akata-airbags/

In the market for a 335i Convertible and went to test drive a 2008 335i CV at International Motors in Milwaukee WI yesterday 2/27 and was told that they cannot sell the car due to Takata recall, and they were unsure of when the car could be delivered. They told me that 8 cars on the lot were "frozen" and could not be sold.

Even though its a voluntary recall on BMW's part, the dealerships are not legally allowed to sell the affected vehicles. I was planning to buy my 335is when the lease is over (in less than a month), but they are taking the leased cars and putting them somewhere for a while.
(All of his info is from my CA at BMW.)

The inability of the car dealers to sell their stock of affected used cars (including cars returned from lease) has some heavy implications to car dealers stuck with inventory, BMW and many other manufacturers not able to procure replacement parts fast enough (Takata itself could only supply about 1 million per month after ramp up of production) that many manufacturers have decided to incur the cost of buying airbags from alternate suppliers rather than wait for Takata-supplied replacements at lower/no cost.

Some folks have speculated that manufacturers may divert any replacement bags to fix dealer used car lot inventory as a priority so they can be sold, in advance of cars already on the road getting their fix. But that would expose manufacturer to lawsuits for accidents in which occupants are hurt by the not-yet-replaced airbags!

Just checked my vin on BMW recall website and mine's included in the latest recall.

The handsome guy on the pic can check your vin http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...eoverride=true

Is the recall about the front airbag attached to the steering wheel?

My car falls within the affected population of the recall notice, yet for the past month it has never been stated by the VIN search as being subject to an open, unresolved recall.

I imagine that a number of cars held up in dealer inventory of 'affected cars' are like mine, they fail to appear in the affected list of VIN even though they fall within the identified general group of affected cars.
Meanwhile folks like M3maniac20 and 2001f4s want to buy cars but cannot.
Sad state of affairs that the VIN search is not fully populated with specific VINs affected by this, so that unaffected cars can be sold!

I'd be happy to sell mine for way more than I have into it if you really need a 335...

I've been hit too (2010/E92). Stinks.

I read the full notice, and it claimed that there have been zero injuries in BMWs from the airbag defect. That said, I want mine replaced ASAP.

Incidentally, I wonder if this affects our ability to trade-in our affected cars or even do a individual sale.

I heard since there are so many different vehicles (non BMW) involved and given the fact they can only make so many at one time it will take 10-15 years to replace all effected cars. Bottom line good luck in getting yours fixed anytime soon :-<>

I'm still interested to know if the high pressure fuel pump recall still exist. My apologies for being off-topic but within Recall topic kind of. As far as the airbag goes they have to gather a bunch of parts before they start officially scheduling appointments, I read that in the BMW USA blog.

It never did. Service bulletin and extended warranty; it was never recalled.

Sadly, I think it does.
