How do I adapt the adaptive suspension
Hi all,
I just got my 4th BMW on the weekend (M235i coupe), having had: E46 318i SE saloon E46 325ci SE couple E90 330d m sport saloon The car is supposed to have adaptive suspension but my god it's firm compared to my previous cars. Is it possible that I am missing a setting somewhere (I have professional nav)? I drove it in comfort and Eco on the weekend, never did it seem soft. Thanks in advance |

If your car is equipped with runflat tires, you can greatly improve the ride by switching to non-runflats. |

True.
The difference between modes is more in steering than in suspension. However my own test is not with bumps but with tight corners were the car has less roll movement in Sport mode. |

Ride quality complaints are usually due to run flat tires and too little sidewall (19" or more wheels). |

Your views are interesting because many forum members think the ride is too floaty and want to firm it up. To each his own. |

Interesting you think it's too firm. Sloppy, floaty - yes, but firm? It's anything but.
Maybe you should check your tire pressure. Or if you run summer tires in winter... |

All that said, I don't think the M235i adaptive suspension is very well executed; even comparing it to a relatively cheap car like my Golf R. In the latter, the Comfort mode is truly comfortable - great for really poor pavement, or just some relaxed driving (or transporting your mom from A to B ). Still - when switched to Race mode - it becomes even stiffer than the M235's in Sport+... In this regard, my F10 528i was more like the R - but then it had one more, even comfier EDC mode - Comfort+.

Plus, the OP is right when missing his E46 suspension settings and feel. I used to have an E46 330i with Sport suspension (passive) - and while stiff enough for very spirited cornering, somehow it was comfier in normal driving than M235's suspension even in Comfort mode... Go figure!

The adaptive suspension is one of the things my wife really likes about her 235. We have an 04 M3 purchased new that was her daily driver previously. The 235 is very compliant comparatively, especially in comfort mode.
