First Time Driving with Snow Tires

I used to drive a 2008 Subaru Legacy GT with Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires. Today was the first time I was able to test the 335i M Sport RWD SAT with Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires on the morning commute.

Mind blown.

I can attest to the fact that RWD + snow tires > AWD + all season tires is TRUE.

Included some dash cam footage.

In case anyone has any questions about the dash cam setup, check out: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...6#post16668046

Winter tires are awesome. I am on xDrive + winter (Blizzak WS-80), and it works wonders for the upstate NY weather. I had RWD + winters and they work, but not well on steep hills, or massive amounts of snow. If it works for you, great!

We're supposed to get our first significant snowfall (4"-8") tonight in Maryland so I'll get a chance to report how these tires do in deeper snow.

Here's a video of my 2014 F30 335i M Sport RWD with Michelin X-Ice Xi3 winter tires going up 4-6" of unplowed/untreated heavy wet snow. This snow was originally 8-12" of powder but rain started coming down in the morning and it became very heavy snow.

You can see how the tracks coming up the incline never touched the pavement and yet there was no wheel spin.

Looks like RWD + snow tires is sufficient. They say that videos/pictures are worth a thousand words.
