Navigation Question
Hello all. First, I recently joined this board since I just got a 330xi. All the posts were very helpful in my decision to get the car and for info since I got it two weeks ago. Anyway, my question is once you get a route set in the nav, can you change portions of it to a different road and choose the specific road to change to. I know there is an area where you can change the route and it recalculates for a certain number of miles. I have another vehicle with nav and all you have to do is put the cursor over the new road. I tried this with mine and it doesn't work that way. Thanks.

For longer distances (i.e. where you pass by/through different towns), you can try using the 'Route Via' option. This gives a list of various towns/cities that are in the general direction of your destination. I think you can have up to 3 or 4 different ones (in order, obviously).
For driving within the same city (or wherever really) just take whatever roads you want. The nav system will automatically recalculate your route (and she won't even yell at you).

This would definitely be for longer trips. It sounds like the route via option is what I am looking for. I don't recall seeing it when I went through the owner's manual and the system. I'll check it out when I get home. Thanks.

vivekk, I think you're right. Since I'm at work, I just pulled up the owner's manual on line and the "route via" option wasn't in there. I haven't gone through the bypassing route options yet, but it doesn't seem like it would let me pick the alternate route. I'll give it a try on the way home just to see how it works. Thanks again.

Route Via isn't available with pro? That's weird. You would think it would be. Sorry for misleading you.

Not a problem. I appreciated the response. There has to be some way that a specific route can be chosen over another. At least you would think so.

NavPro only allows 'New Route' for a certain distance before falling back to the normal route guidance. I can't understand why Pro owners don't have the 'Route via' option. It's great there's been 3 international contributors to this thread so far, talking about 2 different types of SatNav! |
