Should this cable work with my e90? (Pic)

I have this cable that I bought and used for coding and diagnistics with NCS expert and INPA on my e46. It is a COM cable with a USB adapter.

In INPA I can get it to show up and show battery and ignition on in my e46, but in my e90, only the battery shows connected and not the ignition.

Is there any reason this cable would work with my e46 but not with the e90?

I am not getting any prompts. Just the ignition circle doesn't light up in INPA and if I try to read any codes or do anything it gives me a message about no connection or something.

On my e46 both the battery and ignition light up. I tried the two cars back to back.

I also tried a generic obdII reader in the e90 and that works, so there is not an issue with the car.

Would there be any setting or anything I would need to change to get it to work with the e90? All I did was update all the software using a BMW coding back I downloaded and found an updated SGDATEN for the e90. I haven't touched the drivers since I set it up for my e46 probably 4 years ago.

Ok. So sounds like I need to buy a new cable. My e90 is 03/08 production date.

I've been trying to do some more reading and looks like there was some other change in late 09 that requires yet another different cable.

Is there a cable that I can get that will do the newest BMWs as well as my 2008 e90? Or do you know of a topic or something that compares the differences of the cables? Currently I only have my 08 and 01, but it would be nice to have the ability to do newer cars also.

Edit:

Just did some looking around on one-stop-electronics. Looks like the cable for the newest BMWs would not work with my e90.

Seems this cable is the only one people recommend. Any other cables to look at or is this the only one pretty much guaranteed to work?

yes, this cable will work
there are many sellers of the such cable on ebay
and price much lower (around $30)
if you want to pay more, search local seller because sometimes such cable come broken and you need few weeks to replace

I just ended up ordering the $99 one because it seems like the ebay ones are hit or miss and the same sellers don't always ship the same cable consistently. I read a few topics where people ended up having to try 2 or 3 different ebay cables before they found one that worked.

I'm sure I'll get my money's worth for the cable over the time I have the car.

I found this cable that's supposedly good for everything up to the newest F series.

I don't have experience with it though and hoping someone else can chime in. As for the 2009 update, that's only the software from what I've read. DIS for pre-2009 and post is Rheingold (ISTA D/P).

FYI for everyone, the ebay cable I bought worked for INPA, EDIABAS, WinKFP, and NCSExpert for my 2010 E93 N54. Programmed Alpina B3 flash and Hardtop operation in motion so far. Didn't need DIS or ISTA D/P (no issues) so haven't loaded those yet. Need a larger hard drive to work with...
