///M Perf Exhaust back to OEM Stock Exhaust?
How difficult is it to revert from the ///M Performance Exhaust back to stock exhaust before lease trade in? I would like to recoup some of this money if at all possible at that time ~3 years down the road.

Very easy really...it is just held on at the rear of axle single pipe with usually a clamp---and the "rod hangers" are held in their inserts.
BUT if it was welded on at main pipe or the cutting point is to too short then some extra pipe for fill-in would be needed to mate the stock back up to main pipe. |

Question: did you buy the exhaust yourself or did you get it through port installation? If you did the latter, you cannot remove it as it is part of the car and on the Monroney sticker.

I currently only own the stock OEM exhaust that is on the car right now. I did not get it installed at port. I am planning on purchasing it from a dealer up north, having it installed at a dealer here in FL. Then when lease trade in comes I'll probably bring it to a muffler shop and have them swap the M Perf for stock OEM again (as long as it is possible), and sell the M Perf separate.

Since then I added the carbon spoiler myself, and am not trying to talk myself into the M Perf Exhaust. |

If you have the
"M Performance Muffler" installed. Removing it yourself and re-installing the stock muffler is a piece of cake. You installed the rear lip spoiler yourself, so undoing a clamp and pulling a muffler off it's hangers is not going to be a big deal for you. Sorry, but the calling it an exhaust is driving me crazy at this point |

Not to hi jack the thread, but does the M Performance exhaust (muffler) use both tail pipes in comfort mode or only one like the stock exhaust?

BMW did/does sell "M Performance Exhaust" systems complete, just not one for the new 2 series yet. I think they are just taking advantage of the typical dumb BMW buyer who doesn't know what a complete exhaust system is. Barring the highly educated members of this forum of course.
"Hello BMW sales center, I just landed a job as an entry level executive and want a M Performance car with the really cool BMW M Performance exhaust system I heard about so my co-workers will know I'm a really cool guy/gal, thanks!". |

after having the car for 2 weeks...imo the stock exhaust is already really nice, no need for perf exhaust esplly paying $1000 for just a muffler

I agree. They say we have a performance exhaust already. I guess it is just not as aggressive as the $1,000 muffler.

i actually would have agreed with this pre break-in. i wrote a review where i thought it wasn't worth the money, barely made any difference. after the 1,000k ish break in, theres a significant difference. i took my review back saying it wasn't worth it to it is. no other exhaust gives you the same tone as the MPE. if you took the MPE and maded a full cat-back like the ones vendors are releasing, it'll sound gorgeous

To me the sensitivity of ones exhaust being 1or 2 dB lower than the next guys is akin to all the sensitivity around their car weighing 2 ounces more than their neighbors… in all I've learned on this forum there are normal levels of enthusiasm and then there is just out right vanity… there is a subset of people that are so vain in how they view their bimmers… my car is 2 dB lower than yours, my car weighs 2 ounces less than yours, I don't like the way my mirrors look… let me lower my car 2 cm… I don't like the way my reflectors look. My reflectors are there for my safety and the safety of others but let me paint them the same color as my car… How flipping ridiculous. The reflector is what all but 2 inches? In my humble humble opinion if you're leasing you're not really well-positioned to spend thousands on mods… If you're looking to recoup pennies on the dollar from your mods your not really position to buy them whether you're leasing or not… I read a post today about somebody scraping the curb with their new 2… That made me check. I'm clearing curbs by several inches… Makes me think the scrape was the result of some silly mod… I think I'll spend 50 grand on a vehicle built by the best engineers in the world and literally change things labored over months and years to perfect. I understand some of the mods do come from the engineers at BMW however the question is are they being applied for their true intended "functional" purpose… |

Curbs are not the problem but speed bumps and some drive ways can easily scrape the bottom of a stock 2 series.
