Surprised no one else posted about this, but my car automatically rolls up the windows and tightens the seatbelt during hard braking on track. I called BMW about this and they tell me it's the active protection system that kicks in when the car thinks you are about to crash, and there isn't a way to turn it off.

And yes, I had all safety systems was fully off, car in full track mode. Had to resort to pulling the fuses for the windows before every track day. Here is a pic for reference, it's under the passenger side dash.

If anyone finds a different solution please update this thread.

It's weird - my G80C didn't do any of that this weekend @ COTA. I had many situations where I was threshold braking from well over 100 MPH with other cars in front of me and the windows didn't move & seatbelts didn't tighten up.

For what it's worth, my seatbelts don't "hug" like other BMWs when starting to drive - did something get removed in the chip shortage?

Very interesting. Yes my seat belts hug when I start driving. Must be related. What year is your car? I wonder if they finally got rid of it.

2022 M3 Comp - it was built in early Q4/2021 and one of the cars that sat in QC for a while and doesn't have wireless charging.

I know it's a bunch of random stats but ya never know why it's different…

Same here, my car has never once tightened the seatbelts and/or rolled up the windows. 3 track days and 3 autocross days so far and have been in plenty of 'pre crash' scenarios but still nothing yet. My car also does not have the seatbelt tightening function when you enter the car. I'm in a 2022 6MT.

Multiple track days. Mine has never done this. The back straight of my local track sees 150+ mph.

Do you have the M Driver's Package?

@ATX_M3 pinky_chi does your have M drivers package?

Mine does not, I wonder that's what disables it.

Mine also has Active Driving Assistance, which I suspected could be what causes this.

Just got back from a track day and confirming that I haven't experienced any window closing issues. Was braking hard from 132mph down to like 40. My car does have the m drivers package, the one that enables the 10 way traction control and the drift analyzer, not the one that raises the speed limit. If that even matters? Anyways just wanted to share my experience.

I have found that a brake slam will cause the car to go into crash mitigation but if you load the pedal up it won't do it.

Don't shock the brakes and you'll be fine

Not sure if you saw this was posted in the track thread, but not slamming the brakes on track isn't really a choice I have haha

I'm not talking about that. There is an aggressive method and a less so. Linear and firm application of the brakes on entry to keep weight transfer smooth. Helped me be faster and the windows don't go up. I used to do the slam and go and when I worked on modulation and application I picked up time in every corner. Smooth is usually faster except when it isn't.

Yes i agree there is something measuring pedal speed and throwing the car into oh shit mode. But still…

Hello - I also have this issue on my G20, and as others have mentioned, I've had to change my braking technique to get to max brake pressure needed for a corner more smoothly rather than immediate to avoid triggering the precrash systems. I'm actually working with my shop and his coder in an attempt to disable it. No ETA yet, but I'll share our results whenever we get a chance to try it.

P.S. I google "bmw active protection" or "bmw precrash" every now and then to see if anyone has solved it lol.

2018 F80 M3 CS  [9.87]
2019 i3 BEV  [0.00]
This happened again this past track day. I late braked, still threshold, into a chicane with a plastic barrier, and I think the front sensors saw the barrier, and thought it was an emergency situation. This only happened 2 other times, once when I was following another car and he broke early into a corner and I had to compensate, and another when a spun. This needs to be disabled in "TRACK MODE" or tracks need to let us start running windows up. It totally defeats the purpose of running windows down for extraction in case of an accident if the car automatically rolls them up in an accident. It makes no sense.

There is no way to disable it. if you drive good and hard enough. it will be almost 100% engage on the track. very very annoying.

I've had it happen in my CCA skills day as well as my auto-x. Happened every time before I realized I wasn't in M Mode (I assumed hitting M2 automatically put it in M Mode). Once I did that, they rolled up less but still on occassion.

Yeah, the fact that they don't have a way to turn this off is pretty dumb. Happened to me multiples times last week at Buttonwillow. What's the point of having a track mode if it still thinks you're crashing when you push hard?

When you do PCD during the braking exercise they mention this feature for safety but they tell you it will only happen if you really stand on the pedal with max pressure. They almost try and make it a game to see who can hit the pedal the hardest by who makes their windows roll up.
