My car is in the vessel to SoCal. I'm curious to know if anyone tried to turn on the engine with the key? if it works. I saw that on a X5M video. Enable the remote engine start in Idrive menu prior, then you should be able to remote start the engine by pressing the lock button of the key 3-times within 1 second.

Settings, climate control, bottom menu option in that screen.
