[Help Request] M4 base - JB4 Logs + Gamma DP/BMS Front Mounted Intake Install
Hi all,
I finished installing the Front Mounted BMS Intake and the Project Gamma Catless Downpipes to my base M4. The DIY was a bit harder than expected, specially the Downpipes. View post on imgur.com I also connected the JB4 during the process and I have a few questions, maybe some advanced users could help. Here my logs with 91 Oct CA Gas: https://datazap.me/u/000camus000/m4-...zoom=1048-1236 I see the timing all over the place, even with Map 0, the quality of this fuel is awful... Still I would like to see if there is any red flag apparent in the logs, from what I see, they look OK for this fuel. Then tried with E30 and Map4 and Map3 (sorry I logged in that order): https://datazap.me/u/000camus000/m4-...26-27-28-29-34 To me, the timing looks good, way better than with 91, but there are a few things that concerns me: 1 - There is a big gap between boost and boost2 (21 psi vs 14 psi). Is this expected with this long front mounted intakes? If the pressure at the Manifold is 21 psi, then is good? should I be concerned? Maybe I installed the Intake incorrectly? 2 - Even though the timing looks good, on the Supra the 6 cylinders were exactly at the same angle during the pull, but here I see differences of 1° or 1.5 °, granted, the Supra has Ecutek custom flash tune, so, are these differences something expected from a piggyback? 3 - The throttle ramps up to 102 at the beginning of the pull, then it closes to 42 for the rest of the pull. I have MDM and I didn't spin, so I don't think it's related to TC, is this normal since I am getting the 21 psi? 4 - According to JB4, Map 4 was absolute 24 psi, but the target is 22 psi, so JB4 is holding back for some reason? Thanks for the help, I am new to piggy backs and want to make sure the Intake was installed properly, I have a hunch that maybe one of the chargepipes is loosely connected. |

Oh, didn't know about the custom settings for the DP, I assumed the turbos will spool faster but won't be an issue, so Map 1-5 are targeted for stock cars? Thanks |

I'll ask over there as well, thanks for the tip. And yes, I heard the same from Jordan (from RKTunes), that Comfort didn't have throttle closures, it could be the same behavior, I'll post back with the logs.

It's best to contact BMS directly, but for a proper log, you need traction to turn off traction entirely. MDM is not enough

I started a thread in N54tech, let's see what they reply and I am not too sure about disabling TC completely, at least not in public roads. BTW I got some logs, now with Map 2 and E30: Sport+: https://datazap.me/u/000camus000/e30...26-27-28-29-34 Comfort: https://datazap.me/u/000camus000/e30...26-27-28-29-34 It's better in Comfort, that's for sure. My theory of what it's going on. Since this is catless, the turbo spools faster than what the DME expects, there is a quick surge in boost (up to 22 psi even when the target is close to 18 psi), then the DME decide to close throttle while the wastegate regulate the boost to the target, then it opens again. The difference between sport+ and comfort is that the surge peaks differently, in comfort reach barely 19 psi, while sport+ 22 psi, so the closure last longer in sport+. I am no tuner, this is my interpretation of the log, maybe someone can correct me. The timing looks way better with E30 though. |

Not sure how it works though, sometimes the CEL won't come up even after an hour of driving, other times the CEL appears in the first 10 minutes. Usually I pull over, enter diagnostic mode and clear the codes, my OCD can't deal with the CEL even though is not affecting anything functional. Looks like clearing the codes in diagnostic is not needed, bit 6 must be clearing the codes in the next start. |
