The mobility kit will suffice in most -- but not all -- flat tire situations, so it's a matter of your tolerance to risk/inconvenience of those exceptional situations.

Few of the cars I've driven the past 15 years came with spare tires, and I seldom carry one if they don't. The exception is long road trips, especially in winter.

About 12 years ago I'm driving an M3 on non-RF snow tires out-of-state in December. One tire goes flat fast near a no-services exit, so I at least get off the highway. I'm carrying a summer rim/tire in the trunk, so I throw it on in a parking lot, order a replacement tire from Tire Rack once I have cell service, and mount the replacement two days later.

Word of advice: if you're going to carry your own spare tire, make sure you have and know how to use the tire-changing tools required for the task. It'll save time and stress, in the event you need to change your own tire. (Back in my autocrossing days, I'd regularly change a set of tires in 20 minutes.)

Don't ever use that mobility kit unless it's life or death. Makes a hell of a mess. Just call a flatbed.

That's quite the inconvenience for a flat

I add a worm tire repair kit in every car I own. Most of the time if you do get a flat its because of a nail. With the mobility kit and a worm plug patch. You are covered 99% of the time. When that fails... AAA to the rescue.

Yeah the point of the M3 is its a crazy fast, sports sedan. You can take people with you as well or for extra cargo space when you need it. They start throwing in spare tire, and other things likes insulation in the hood and wheel wells and many other things it becomes a high performance bucket of lard like the ISF. Most of the time I drive on my own, and sometimes with a passenger. I have not had need for a spare tire once in my 10 years with M cars.

My 2008 Mercedes C63 came with a spare, and when I had to use it in 2015 when it had a puncture; I wish there was a compressor in the car so I could have run the tire and not the rim...

I went for over 40 years without a flat until I got a BMW with RUNFLAT tires. Have replaced 13 tires in 4 years since that on the car. Getting ready to put different wheels on the car because they are all four bent because of the RUNFLATS. No more RUNFLATS on this car.
When the dealer put new 437M wheels on my Son's car to replace his old M wheels they were not runflat. He asked the dealer what he was supposed to do in case of a flat? They said "Call a tow truck".

I had my Lexus RCF for a week and decided to go for a drive on the mountain. Ended up getting a nail in the tire and was surprised that the spare looked so much better than the stocks… lol

+1. Roadside assistance will take the call and dispatch a tow truck, but depending on circumstances, it may be several hours before you're on the road again.

Yeah, its going to get towed. Im not having AAA change a tire on my car with CCBs. Not chancing someone smacking a rotor.

I have my own mobility kit, pliers, tire plug kit, and a air compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Saved me a couple times in the past.
