Drop-in Filter?

Has anyone bought the BMC drop in filter? I should be taking delivery of my G80 next week. Also if I do get them should I install them after the break in 1200 miles?

IMO, if you’re going with drop in filters, just wait until it’s time to change the stock filters and put them in then.

Drop-ins aren’t going to give you much more (if any) sound and no real performance gains. Use up the ones that are in the car and replace them later.

BMCs and removing the charcoal liners were worth about ~10whp on the S55, similar to what you see aftermarket intakes claiming.

We'd expect to see the same from this platform (S58). We've got a shipment coming in early next week, if someone local wants to purchase and dyno - we'd be happy to share results.

IMHO - wait until after 1200 miles, then install since dealers will replace the filters under the service. You won't want them tossing your brand new BMCs.

I've been selling quite a few of BMC drop-in to F97/F98 X3M/X4M and F95/F96 X5M/X6M.

I can tell you more on F97 X3M since I do have F97 X3MC that I daily.

After the BMC Filter, I felt that the engine response better.
Not sure if it add any hp, but for sure the engine does response better with less air restriction.

I will have my stocking order of G8x M3/M4 BMC filter coming in by next week.

I’d love to see dynos that support that. I’ll buy two today if that’s the case.

People have a hard time accepting the stock airboxes are pretty good, but fancy marketing still sells intakes.

Check on the S55 side, there's a few charts to see. Otherwise, we'll post when we have an opportunity.

I’m seriously looking forward to see a dyno run for the drop-ins minus the charcoal filter and I will seriously buy two of them.

if you are not interested in improving the sound and just want the better air flow, BMC is the best filter you can get

Filters don't give you HP. Drop in filters don't give you any better sound either. It is just marketing.

They absolutely do in conjunction with charcoal removal. I saw first hand on the dyno with my big turbo S55 the difference they made.

If someone wants to before/after dyno, we'd be happy to post results. Otherwise, results should be similar if not exact to S55. Most (if not all) gains on intakes are usually contributed to the filters themselves.

I love how you have to answer the same questions for the same parts for every new generation lol… kudos to you

With that said, these will make power. It's just a matter of how much on stock tuning.

I ran paper filters for a while on my S55 on full E85 (24 psi) then switched back to BMC. The difference can be felt at the top end. There is no doubt about that.

Some of us weren’t around for the previous gen and you really shouldn’t assume the new platform will behave in the same manner as the previous car.

It’s not unreasonable to want proof of performance gains.

If they did anything you'd see dynos showing that by now. Save your money and just remove the factory carbon filter.

Highly doubt it since the piping and restrictions on the airbox are all the same. Removing the carbon filter will help a bit then next step after that is a real intake.
