FYI spoke to someone at valvetronic today after pressing about the brace not fitting back on my car. Hey man! They thought maybe the exhaust wasn’t cut on the right dimple (I guess there are 3 dimples) which may have caused some extra space and thus not allowing the brace to fit on. He said try to push the supports back so it fits right or attach some washers to the brace which should provide some space (he thinks the bolts are long enough). Not the biggest of issues but hoping we can figure it out. It’s a little he said she said right now but overall they were helpful and willing to try and figure it out. My exhaust shop will fabricate a spacer at the very worst case scenario.

Good news is that the sound is absolutely incredible. Couldn’t be happier and have received a TON of compliments…. Waiting on a new R44 splitter and spoiler and I’ll be a happy camper.

When people order this, is the majority removing secondary cats/res or is it purely just a install of the midpipe? Have mine ordered and not sure what the instant go-to is.

Side note: Remus is also going to be used in conjunction + a proper valve controller.

I plan on just installing the midpipe for now, I wanna see how it sounds with just the pipe. Once they actually release an Obd port flash method, based on how the mid pipe sounds, I'll either go catless or catted downpipes.

Got it fitted…I was a little nervous that I was going to sound like a clown popping and banging but this thing is just perfect. Nice deep tone, no rasp which is what is exactly what I wanted. No drone either.

It just gives you that nice deep tone as you rev it out. Nothing obnoxious and some nice burbles on over run but not the fake mapped in over the top kind.

Sorry about the photos I screen grabbed, not the best but I didn't want to be in his way.

Will try get a video tomorrow

Nice! Interested in hearing your thoughts on a cold start in sport plus mode; have heard a midpipe change makes that situation sound not so great.

Will let you know. I'm sure you could just press the quiet button on the exhaust. It doesn't bother me as I'm in an underground car park but I know what you mean if you have neighbours close by

I think you can code it out on BimmerCode too?

It does have some VQ character in the upper revs but it sounds pretty freaking great. Is it as high pitched without downpipes as well for anyone that has one with stock downpipes?

I have stock down pipes. I definitely wouldn't classify it as high pitched. It's very deep toned. I'm pretty picky about exhausts and don't like a lot of them, particularly stuff that is too loud and noisy for the sake of being noisy. It's a bit 'all hat and no cattle'

I think it sounds fantastic honestly. If it didn't I'd swap it out, I wouldn't live with it.

I'm pretty sure he is running a catless downpipe as well on this video. He has posted recent videos with that setup

Correct, he (G80_Soom) has SSR catless DPs and the Valvetronic mid-pipe... barryc365 any issues with the cross-brace and the mid-pipe touching?

No issues with the cross brace.

Just drove about 60 miles this am. The pipe sounds stock on cold start, no noticeable difference, certainly not going to annoy anyone.

It's nicely tame generally unless you are in Sport mode, valves open etc, then it comes alive. Nice to be able to switch between the two depending on your passengers etc

I don't think my wife will notice unless I really open it up in sport

This is awesome to hear! Like you, I'm more interested in better tone than overall volume... this seems like the perfect solution for me. Thanks for the feedback

So you have just the VT midpipe, with stock downpipes, and using the stock exhaust control button in the car?

And it has a deep tone, a few extra burbles on over run, and no drone or rasp???? Whattttt?????

Well damn, Barry, now I have to add this to my Xmas list.

And if I come to NYC, please give me a ride in your G8X so I can hear it. I'm in MD, and may be in NY before Thanksgiving.

Compared to the Valvetronic video they have posted with the mid- and downpipe, which sounds quite loud...is just the midpipe about 60% of the volume of the full system? Or more like 75% or 85% of the volume?

Are there any concerns with a single pipe design with valvetronic? It seems like the exhaust gasses will be restricted going from the downpipes to a single pipe.

@KevinGS you're welcome to hear it in person. I'm in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
I don't know % wise but given the DB meter on the one with down pipes was quite loud with valves open I would say this is significantly quieter. If
You're looking for something a bit louder but nothing crazy I would say you would be very happy with this. As I said I didn't want something over the top with crazy pops and bangs. I have a baby and another on the way and really not in to drawing too much attention but the stock exhaust was a little too quiet. I think you'll like it, if anything it's on the subtle side rather than over the top side

iviegatron I doubt it. It's a 3.5 inch pipe and you have two secondary cats and two silencers being removed. I think it frees up airflow if anything. Can't imagine they would be restricting anything. My mechanic owns a G80 and has this fitted to his car too so I doubt he had any concerns either. Single Mid is a different design for sound purposes I believe

I think from memory when the VT mid pipe was dynoed with everything else stock it was a ~15whp gain, which is basically the same as PSI I believe, that would support that it's less restrictive than stock, and not materially different to PSIs offering
