Winter setup advice

I have a 2022 M3 comp sedan xdrive 19-20 stagger setup.
Would 19x8 M&W MSW type 71 wheels 245/40 R19 all round work with 245/40R19 sottozero pirelli work?

If not, any recs on what to do this winter for wheels/tires? thanks!

Tires will fit on the rims, as for the rims fitting on the car you need to figure out the offset(this should be very low for an 8" rim) bolt pattern and center bore diameter if it matches with the stock rims.

Depending on actual climate and usage case. All seasons maybe the best option. At the moment no locally available winter tire options exist on factory staggered wheels for the 19/20s

Any reason these wheels wouldn't work for a winter setup on all 4? Running 275/35/19 alpins?

19x9.5 ET10 is perfect. Good find.

Admittedly I know very little about how the tire/wheel fitment works but I thought the factory offset was ET20. Wouldn't the ET10 in this spec be an issue?

Yes, 19x9.5 ET20 up front is stock. ET10 will push the wheel out by 10mm, equivalent to using a 10mm spacer. Most people put a 12-15mm spacer to achieve a nice, flush look. ET10 will look great and won't cause any issues.

Oh ok, very helpful! So any offset of ET20 or lower should work, no problem then. Just want to avoid greater than ET20 offset to avoid the wheel tucking in and potentially rubbing?

Also any issues with choosing wider or narrower wheels than 9.5 inch width for the 275 winter setup? Just trying to find the cheapest set of wheels and pricing seems to be all over the place depending on the wheel size and offset...

Yeah exactly I wouldn't go any higher than ET25 and I wouldn't go much lower than ET10 on a winter set. You don't want the wheels to stick too far out and risk rubbing the fender or kick up too much winter road debris onto the side of your car.

I'd stick with 9-9.5" wide. I agree though it's very tough to find affordable wheels with the correct offset for these cars. On previous cars, it was easy to find a cheap "tire rack special" winter set. Now, not so much lol. In addition to what you just posted, here are my other options. Yours are the front runner due to the great offset though.

https://tototires.com/en-us/products...r-tire-package

The nice thing about this last one is that it's a complete solution with tires mounted and TPMS sensors.

Thank you so much! Toto Tire package indeed looks compelling. M5 package with the Nexen tire is really attractively priced too...

If i am understanding this offset thing correctly, I guess the other option is to get a more common ET35+ wheel and get spacers to bring them inline with the factory spec. Any downsides with adding spacers that I should be aware of?

Happy to help! That's always an option for sure. I'm a fan of using spacers, especially in euro cars with wheel bolts (as opposed to cars with wheel studs). A 15mm spacer to bring an ET35 wheel down to ET20 wouldn't be terrible.

Just need to be sure you grab a set of new bolts that are 15mm longer than stock. And make sure the bolt seat (conical or ball) matches the seat of the wheels.

I went with the TOTO setup. They should be here tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I think of them but I probably won't put them on the car for another 2-3 weeks.

That looks like a good package and a reasonable price. That's about what I paid for MSW wheels and Vredstein Wintrac's from Tire Rack.

Mine went on yesterday and it is snowing today.
Game on!

I'm interested in knowing more about your MSW/Vredestein setup. Can you share the specs/link to them? The Toto package is a great deal but I didn't realize they're Canada based. Means an additional $200 in shipping which erodes the value proposition a bit. Tire Rack would ship free.

I ended up paying just under $2,600 shipped to Ohio. At the time I purchase they were offering $100 off of winter/wheel and tire packages.

The whole deal with tpms, was $2300. I also got a $100 prepaid credit card back from Tire Rack.
I'm quite happy so far, all the hardware was there and I swapped them over myself yesterday.
Today, it is snowing! And my pictures are all still upside down.

That toto package looks legit! What's the consensus on the tire selection? Michelin over Pirelli's?

I have run Winter SottoZero 3 for years on a mapped FBO Golf R and they're great. Just way expensive in g80 spec. For me, it's either Michelin or Vredestein.
