G80 xdrive vs 911 cs

Just got my g80 x drive.. blown away by it.

Had a 911 carrera s 992 earlier this year and thought it was insanely fast. This m3 feels just about the same. Granted I haven’t timed or tracked either, it feels ridiculously fast. Carrera is obviously a smaller car so you’ll feel it more as you’re lower. The g80 handles very similar to the 911 as well. Grippy, great take off and constant pulling you. Feels glued down to the ground…

M3 also feels like the m5 did when I drove it in terms of acceleration. Performance figures are comparable right?
.
Random question, does exhaust button in m3 change exhaust or ONLY fake noise inside passenger compartment?
- also m3 is more of a “track oriented” car vs a m5 if I’m understanding correctly?
G80 xdrive track times are comparable to which car? I’m assuming the 911 cs is a better track car? Any times out for the m3 at nureinburg?

Congratulations! Your thoughts on both cars mirror mine (though my comparison was to the 6MT G82). This is as close as any M3 has ever gotten to the same-generation Carrera S.

The M4 Comp RWD got within 4 seconds of the 992 911 S time on comparable tires (7:30 for the 911 vs. 7:33 for the M4). Those numbers validate what I felt firsthand driving both extensively. The 7:33 time represents a significant improvement over the previous generation (>10 seconds).

The M3/4 is the smaller, nimbler, more track-ready car, though the M5 is definitely no slouch. The M5 CS posted a better Ring time than both the M4 and 911 C2S. The M5 is noticeably faster in a straight line.

The exhaust button changes both the artificial sound and the exhaust valves themselves. The behavior does not appear to be binary; BMW states that the valves are designed to incrementally open/close based on settings and driving conditions.

Is it safe to safe the awd track time is even less of a 3 second difference at that point since the times you posted were for a g82 manual.

When I drove the m5 I felt it was more bland compared to the m3 driving experience. This feels more raw if that makes sense.

Also, I guess that reiterates the stuff I heard about sport /sport + with button on = valves open but also artificial sound?
If I have the button off, will they close then?

Would you say the same thing about the 992 vs. the G80? I test drove the 992 and it's fantastic, but around town it is fairly bland. That's not a bad thing for a daily. Probably a very good thing. Just wondering how the G82 compares (since I can't test drive one until I get mine).

The g80 feels stiffer and more track I tuned then the m5..

The base 911 isn’t special to me.something about it doesn’t do it for me. The cs felt way better then the base. It’s a small car so it’s gonna be fast regardless. The handling and ability to control the car reminds me of the m3.
Even my cs which didn’t have sport exhaust felt pretty average unless I stepped on it. M3 regardless of speed feels more track tuned all around

The 7:33 Ring time was achieved by a RWD G82 Competition ZF8 car on Michelin PS4S. Watching the lap (performed by Sport Auto), it appears that there are opportunities for the xDrive car to improve on the RWD, though I would be surprised if the improvement (if any) is greater than 3 seconds.

Why did you get rid of the 911?

They gave me dolomite silver instead of gt silver which the contract was for. Figured it out due to my key and manual saying 1 thing and my contract saying another. Rushed into it and didn’t want to live with a 2 door as my only car at the time.

I just got rid of my 991.2 C2S with 9800 miles since I wasn’t driving it much. Just received my 2022 xDrive about 2 weeks ago and trailered it home. Had 14 miles on it when I took delivery and still has 14 miles😏. I guess I need to take it for a drive. The 911 was a fantastic car BTW and I hope the M3 doesn’t disappoint. Glad to hear what other 911 owners are saying about the car👍

You haven't driven it, at all? I would be getting the break in service done, already.

That’s the problem with work from home, a second home at the Lake where my wife likes to go to boat every weekend during the summer and 6 cars🤦🏻 I need to put 1,200 miles on it by October 5 before departing on Crown Rally South on October 6. Wish me luck.

This is where you just go on a 50 mile joyride everyday.

I have a G80 (RWD) on order... the waiting game is giving me way too much time to think, especially because I haven't been able to test drive the G80 anywhere.

I'm still thinking of switching to a 992 Base instead of the G80. I don't care much about all out acceleration so the CS would be wasted on me. I am more interested in handling and steering feel. I have driven the 992 and it feels great. Not quite as good as a 718, but very good. Is the G80 close to a 992 in this regard? I'm sure it's nowhere close to the much smaller 718.

I think the M3 might have more straightline over a 911 cs, the xDrive is pretty mean and is probably closer to 550 wtq. Carrera 4S is a better comparison but the Porsche handles better.

You should go for car rides early Saturday and Sunday mornings before everyone wakes up and clogs up the roads.

G80 all the way.. especially over a base 911. In my opinion the base 911 isn’t really worth the money at all. Yea Porsche branding but you get no features, base exhaust and base engine. Handles decent but the acceleration and excitement isn’t there. The m3 may be as fast as the 992 carrera s / 4s but it feels more exciting to drive at times on regular roads. Something about it..

I'd buy a 718 GTS 4.0 or GT4/Spyder way before a base 911.

I just sold my 911 991.2 c2 for 20% over what I paid for to get into the G80 6MT. I’m looking for something easier to drive everyday that has two useable back seats. Hope I don’t regret it….

I felt the same way after selling my 991.2 C2S. It had all the performance options plus RAS with only 9800 miles when I sold it. I sold it for $13,500 more than I paid for it 3 years ago. I just took delivery of a 2022 M3 xDrive and was worried how it would stake up. I just hit 500 miles on it, but very impressed at this point. Has a better ride, less road noise and has the performance of my 911 S….plus a lot more practicality if that’s important. The technology of the M3 make my Porsche feel like an Amish buggy in comparison. Steering feel is not as good as the 911, but still very good. I have not been disappointed in any way.

Would like to have more details on the Amish buggy thing ? Just curious.
