Love this! Can't wait to carry only the physical keycard in my MagSafe apple wallet on back of my iPhone and not carry the actual key fob.
I guess I could just use the digital key but..
Maybe I'm just a belt and suspenders kinda guy.

I did the paperwork on my new M3 Comp yesterday and they set up the car in the My BMW app as part of the process. I have the Digital Key option in the app and, obviously, don't have wireless charging.

Dont even bother. Wireless charging is complete garbage. I have wireless charging on 2 of my current cars, as well as 3 previous cars. I couldnt wait to get it on my first car. Then, something I have confirmed on every car, (3 different brands) that wireless charging charges like a turtle. Like 10% an hour, and it severely degrades the battery from the excessive heat that it produces while charging. Ive taken my phone off of the wireless charger, and its been so hot, not only did I have to hold it, because putting it in my pocket was burning my leg, I couldnt sit it on the seat, because it was worried it would mark the leather. Youre way better off. Digital Key is a must, though. If you get car jacked, make sure you bring your phone with you...

I hear ya. I actually have it on both my M2C and X5. On the M2C, it is far worse and thus I have resorted to just plugging it in. But I still want to just have it, as on the G05 X5, it's a bit better.

Once they figure it out, I'll resort to using it, again. But, as of now, none of them are worth the heat damage they do to the battery. For me, anyway.

I believe the digital key uses NFC, which a car can have w/o wireless charging.

I've heard digital key is gone for MY 2022 but still seeing it on some 9/2021 builds.

Some are saying no wireless charging == no digital key but I'm not sure they go hand in hand.

This is for a X6 but similar for all cars.

They're not related. My 22 has the Digital Key and the key card but doesn't have wireless charging. On a side note, my iPhone 13 Pro Max barely fits in the slot with a thin case. It ultimately works out perfectly because it can't slide around but a mm or two taller and it wouldn't fit.

So I'm confused & not sure as to what's the deal with these eKey cards since we did not receive one when we picked up my wife's 2022 X3M Comp. last week at a local dealership...and the same dealer is telling me that the Key card will NOT be included with my 2022 M3 for which I've been placed in their "order bank" and something like 10th in line for an actual build order...
Not sure on how to go about trying to find out if they just lost our eKey card or who to contact...

Maybe the Genius line could get you more information.

I was told the same thing, however, it seems the dealer once again knows less than the customers. Bet if they did a good delivery and showed the manuals when delivering the car they would probably find the keycard. Many have reported they are mixed in with the owner's manuals.

Cool...thanks for that info...that gives me hope that my M3xc will have one too when it arrives, especially since that won't be till who knows when in 2022 and hopefully some of this chip shortage crap will start to taper off soon...I'm still 6 slots away from my formal order being placed.

Yeah, unfortunately since my wife's X3mc was not ordered by us, I think we got a sub-par delivery experience buying the vehicle off the lot since we were never in any sort of communication with the dealership during the customary BMW order process (obviously an amazing vehicle to drive and very fortunate to be able to afford it and just find it sitting on their lot)...but no eKey card in the owners manual.
So I contacted BMW North America Customer Relations & was told that this vehicle apparently had the eKey card option deleted from the options list...by who or why or when during the order process they couldn't or wouldn't answer that question for me, and obviously since we didn't order that vehicle, we have no idea of the order history and what exactly transpired from order to delivery...
After this purchase, working with a more informed BMW dealer (to order my 2022 M3xc) would be great; any good dealership referral suggestions from members who might have had a good order & delivery experience would be much appreciated!

I can't for the life of me figure out who configures some of the cars, the dealer I work with had a MX3C that was pretty much sale proof in the current market, it took them like 8 months to sell it...all because of the color choice.

Bought a 5 xdrive in March in Columbus and went to both dealers there and one just wasn't good and the other had managers that were smart and the salesperson was very good as well. It helped that then knew what to do with the trade too. In and out with a new 5 in 2.5 hours.

Really its the lottery to see if you get a salesperson who is engaged, likes their job and is good. Makes all the difference.

I'm sure someone on this board is in your area that could recommend somebody. If not call the receptionist at the different stores and ask them if they know which salesperson sells the most cars, that *might* work.

I have seen a few very productive salespeople who I could never buy from, they have one way to do things...their way.

Went to look at my Brooklyn Grey 22 M4 Comp last night.. The CA showed me the digital Key. He removed it from a small stack of manuals on his desk,( reading material at work) walked out to the car to explain how the key works with the car. Then CA put the key back in the manuals. He said something about its all set up for my car.

thanks! I like the suggestion regarding trying to get hold of a salesperson with the highest sales...I never thought of that, and it's definitely worth a shot dealing with a salesperson who's maybe a little more "in the loop" with their ordering/delivery process etc; I'll call around and see how that goes...

Digital key works without wireless charging in 2022

Picked up BMW M440i last week. Wireless charging cradle has the icon for wireless charging but no wireless charging present. The vehicle has NFC (near field communication) which is all that is needed for Digital Key. There is a digital credit card size key and we set up our iPhones as digital keys in the Apple Wallet.

The phone locks/unlocks doors by brining near the handle and placing the phone in the console cradle the same as the credit card sized digital key that comes with the vehicle allows the car to be started and driven even when no original vehicle keys are present.
