I live at a ski area. My road is covered in snow for the entire winter. Nokian make by far the best winter tires. It is not even close.
Yes Nokian winters are amazing. I used them on previous cars and agree nothing was even close to them. Thanks for the link I didn’t know they made these sizes.

I've asked why they are using the wider wheels in the back with the same tire. I'm not clued enough on wheel/tire dynamics to know if there is a good reason beyond appearance. It should be the same OD. I haven't calculated overall diameter for the stock 19/20" set to compare yet.

Anyway, I'll share what I learn.

Great choice for your conditions. Road crews here are pretty efficient, so I’m occasionally blasting through snowdrifts or fresh powder, but otherwise driving on plowed surfaces (then wet or dried pavement within 12 hours of snowfall). Tire noise and ride comfort are priorities for me, as well as traction on snow/ice. YYMV

That is generally the case here. Snow does not stay on the highways. I don't find the road noise to not be any worse than other snow tires. They all have a bit of road noise to them. Mine as well get the best.

I am putting Michelin Alpine 5 on my car for the winter time. They are the best snow performance tires and we’re great under conditions 32°F and lower. If you were in summer tires when it’s cold in your performance will be drastically affected

I've decided to go with the Alpin 5s too. I've stopped waiting for TireRack to get decent wheels, and just ordered a set of 826Ms in a 19" setup all around. 9.5 F/ 10.5 R width though. I don't normally go for OEM BMW rims as my winter setup but now I have the best of both worlds since I have the 825Ms as my summer wheels. I'll order the Michelin's separately from TireRack.

I may go down to 265/40R19s for the fronts and 275/35R19s for the rears. Can anyone confirm those tires should fit these rim sizes? They do according to charts I've seen online. And skinnier is supposed to be better for snow.

Wait how did you order OEM 826Ms in 19s all around in those widths? Do you mean you ordered four front 9.5" wheels?

Does the 826 come in 19x10.5 for rear? I did OE 826 black setup with sottozeros and recall there was some confusion about this for mine, but ultimately determined it was 20x10.5 (like spec from factory) when we got into the details.

The 826M comes as 9.5 f and 10.5 r... do you mean 829M? The wheel used for the winter wheel package?

Turns out there was a mistake in my seller's website, I actually just got off the phone with them. They don't have the 826M 19"s in 10.5, just 9.5. I don't know if that means the 826Ms are or aren't available in 19"x10.5" or not though.

I had them update my order to 19"x9.5" all around, so I am essentially getting a fully square (all four fronts) setup.

Now the question remains, should I go with 265/40R19 or 275/35R19 for the tires? The latter is the OEM setup for the fronts.

826. Same as what you can get with the car at delivery. I am going to run 826 black for winter since I have 825 bi color delivered with summers on the car.

Ah OK, yea that makes sense now... I would still go with 275/35 square, personally.

Your setup is essentially the same as mine, except I’m going with four 825M bi-color rims (two OEM, two purchased separately) on 275/35-19 Michelin Pilot Alpin5 tires. Square setup for both rims and tires is just easier to manage, plus a no-brainer as far as xDrive compatibility. (265/40-19 is 0.8% shorter circumference, so just within 1% limit.)

When I ordered my tires a couple weeks ago, Tire Rack had only (9) of that size in stock; so act now, look elsewhere, or pray for new supply. (It’s still very early in the season.)

Would like to know if rear wheel is ok with wheel arch

posted this in the canadian section... but hope it helps folks looking at aftermarket choices:

ended up going with this aftermarket setup.. not many rim choices out there that's economical

Superspeed Flow Form RF05RR 9.5x19 et25 pcd 5x112 cb 66.6
Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 275/35/19

https://www.super-speed.ca/flowform-rf05rr

$2900 + tax installed.... TPMS was $250 on top of it.... will put these on later in Nov when it's actually cold and Superspeed was kind enough to let me do a test fit since this is the first G8X car to be fitted to their wheels but they are confident about fitment based on specs

there were some cheaper rims but with these heavy gravity cast junk that any upfront savings you will give back at the pump easily. PA5s were also up there in price amongst tire choices, Blizzak LM-32 would've been ~$400 cheaper for example.

I'm doing this exact same setup. Had to re-jigger my original order for 826Ms but hopefully now I have a proper order in. Ordered my tires from TireRack separately. I don't think the latest in-stock ones I ordered at 275/35 come with the BMW * (there was a different size that did on the website) but for a square winter setup I'm not concerned about super high performance driving as much.

Those are great looking wheels, I'll look forward to the pics!

Now down to only 4 in stock after my order. We've cleaned out 70% of their stock just in this thread!

I hit the easy button and my dealership is getting me the G80/2/3 winter package, which is 19x9 front 19x9.5 rear wrapped in the Pilot Alpin tires.

I've only seen photos in a profile view, from BMW's marketing. That's enough for me

Maybe I'lm missing something… These are the BMW winter package for the car. Why wouldn't they fit?

They won't be hellaflush or anything ridiculous like that. They'll be narrower than the summer set, which is normal, expected, and desired for a set of tires that will see snow. They will maintain correct suspension geometry.
