it was a while go but as i recall, it's the same layout as the 340 and i found that one.

there may also be a diagram in the fuse compartment in the trunk.

I used BV 2018 on my 2021 M3 manual. The shape of the housing around the mirror was a little different. It also required a lot of force to get it to pop open. The right side of the housing came out first. The left side was secured with pins internally which eventually gave way. Ultimately worked but was difficult.

Can you mirror tap both a radar detector and a dashcam? Or is it one or the other, with the other one going straight to the fuse box? And if only one, which would you recommend get tapped vs fuse box?

I've never hardwired to the car, so i am not sure what it will support.

I only did a detector in my M2 so I'm not sure. My M3 has the Driver's Assistance package so the cover is different and I can't figure out how it comes off. It's one long and wide over that sits above the two-piece mirror arm cover.

I have the same cover and just installed my mirror tap; the top piece has three clips along the top side, and the bottom part has clips that slide under the bottom two pieces. Gently pull on the top left and right corners, and then use a trim removal tool to pull down along the top. Once the top clips pop out, pull the piece slightly down and up towards the headliner.

For the remaining pieces, slide the trim removal tool between then and slowly start to pry them apart (behind/below the mirror). Those two pieces were joined together really well, so take your time! The right side should slide out right first.

Ok, so at the end of the day this was super simple. Guess I was overthinking it. I will say, though, that it feels like it takes a really long time for the detector to turn off even after locking the car. I guess the car keeps power going to things longer than we might expect. I haven't timed it but I'm tempted.

Yes the power stays on for a few minutes (I think I read somewhere it stays on for up to 10-15 min?).

15 minutes? Holy hell. I wonder if there is another connection that turns off the power sooner? I understand some connections may need to be powered for longer times, but this is something that should just shut off with the car. Its like its wired to accessory, and not to ignition.

Agreed. Mine is turning on when I open the door, however, the wiring is the same for everything that I've read. I wonder if it has anything to do with having the Active Driving stuff. Grasping at straws here...

I've hard wired R7s in my Cruze, my Type R and my C7. All totally different platforms. They all just turn on and off only when the car is either in accessory or actually running. When I hit the start stop, to kill the car, all power turns off. Ill check to see if there is a wiring diagram to see if I can figure it out, until my car gets here, hopefully in a week or two.

Thanks. My M2 behaved the same as your previous experience. The guy that did my 1-1 delivery session at PCD made it a point to mention that the car goes into some sort of semi-power state (my term - similar to the accessory state but don't remember what he called it) and you have to long press the radio power button for 2 seconds to actually turn the car "off". The radar detector continues to stay on for some amount of time even after doing this so not really sure what to make of it. :
