As a fun car I think you'll be disappointed a few months in to ownership if it's just going to be your toy car. Great daily and commuter cars, but from my experience you'll miss the feel and engagement that you want from a fun car.

Happy to answer any specific questions if you like.
Thanks and understood I'm hearing kind of what I thought I was going to... which is the Model 3 Performance is a pretty nice car but I'm going to miss not having a manual gas gulper. Oh well I don't really need a car now I will probably just wait to see what happens next summer with an LCI on the M3.

No model 3 here but my first EV--- what a riot it is and I told myself I would never get an EV unless the performance was substantially greater than any ICE car I have or have had... and yep it is.

I frankly dont care about the build quality (mine is fine) or the lack of exhaust note. Its just a mind numbing fast car that allows me to crush souls. Im a purist and would never only have this as my solo car but ... fuck its fast and I still have all my other loud, obnoxious, relatively fast cars

All I did was change the horn to La Cucaracha and taco tuesdays are never the same:

We have a 2017 Model S 75D, which is the lowest trim dual-motor all wheel drive version of that generation. As a daily, as others have stated, it is fantastic. Plug it in once every few nights in the garage and you're good to go, with incredible acceleration and a shockingly large amount of space due to the hatchback. It truly does not satisfy my enthusiast side though. I am keeping my STI until just before I take delivery of my M3 because the Tesla is so mind numbingly boring to drive. Straight line acceleration is a unique sensation due to instantaneous torque and single gear trans, but otherwise it's like driving a senseless boat. Completely numb dead steering, significant body roll, etc.

As far as clean energy discounts or tax breaks go - aren't they significantly limited by income? I did not qualify for it by any means in CA, and I suspect most people comfortable with buying a G8X will not either (although I could be wrong!)

the no haggle, no dealership non-sense is nice with Tesla. Always dreaded the emails, calling, haggling with BMW. Seemed like the deals quoted on Leasehackr were from a different planet.

I have a Tesla 3 Performance. Came from a 18 Comp. I enjoyed the burbling, crackling of the M3, but from what I understand that's gone? The car is def a wolf in sheep's clothing, a killer, however I do find the ass on the new m3 stunning

The pops and burbles are still there but maybe not so much in the EU. I love my Plaid for everything that no other car I have or had is not. But when I get in the V10 sonorous R8 and just rip the sounds; I have satisfaction as well along with the G80, F93, C63BS etc.

There is always something faster but out of the box the Plaid is just mind blowing dumb... If it was close to my other cars I would not have got it as Ive always professed my desire for sound to match my acceleration and deceleration.

the acceleration in your plaid is brutal. Even the 3 is a neck snapper. I don't think people realize how wide the plaid is until you see it person.

I have been considering a Model 3 performance too. My '22 G82x has been sitting in QC for almost 3 weeks, and also has RAM issue. I ordered the fucking thing in July and I'm pretty much at the end of my rope.

Its a pita even to get a tesla for some models. I was going to order the Plaid but got a March 2022 delivery frame. I reached out to unique contact in the organization who found me one in about 4 hours. But that was a "one off" for sure.

Now one can get a Plaid with a December delivery date or so the web says. It fluctuates as Elon flatulates.

Yeah apparently the higher margin cars are a little better. I'd get a performance and the site claims November. Who knows? It's all obnoxious.

How many cars you have? I lost track. :

Plaid delivers are about a month now. My brother ordered one beginning of October and scheduled for delivery next week. Musk definitely prioritizes high margin specs which is smart business.

I just did a play order and it said December--- things change all day.

Im sure if I ordered it- it would show up in November Under promise and over deliver.

There are really only two main options for me, 21 inch wheels and FSD. FSD is a waste for me at 10k as I only drive my car and further I can do a monthly sub for 199.

Unfortunately, not good news for new orders - you'll be waiting well into 2022:

Tesla is back to a full vehicle lineup, but delivery timelines slip up to almost a year
https://electrek.co/2021/10/18/tesla...imelines-slip/

You can try an inventory tracker, which some have reported success with, but it looks like only model 3 is available at this time.

Per the article:

Quote:
The Long Range Dual Motor and Performance versions are quick to get with new orders being delivered as fast as December and November, respectively:
I'd order a M3P. Still undecided. I'm thinking of giving it until Halloween for my G82 to get on a boat. If that happened, there'd at least be a chance to get it this year.

I'm leaning M3P but before I click on buy I'm waiting to see about new federal EV rebate...could be upper 4 and maybe 5 digit price tag reduction.

Last I heard, Tesla was not in line to receive benefits of new EV rebates due to them being non-unionized (I guess they don't have as many congressmen in their pockets as Ford or GM).

I had a Model 3 Long Range and loved it. For reasons unrelated to performance or desirability of the car, I sold it and am not at liberty to buy another Tesla. But if I could, I would get a M3 Performance or Model S. It's the way of the future.

But being in the situation I'm in now where I can't get the Tesla, I'm looking at the G80 and really want one.
