Thank you for sharing.
For next season/year I need to change my front rotors and pads.
I have already changed rear rotors and pads but I'm willing to change the rear pads again if blue stuff will save my rotors ?

Do you have any suggestion on what setup I should go with ?

I did 420kms of track (260miles) I had to change the rear at 350kms (217 miles) I drive dsc off
Current state of my front rotor pad

And the rear one

What do you recommend?
BMW front rotors I guess we don't have other choices currently, but should I put blue stuff pads to save the rotors next year ?

And should I replace rear pads with blue stuff for the same reason?

I'm good at mechanics so replacing all this by myself is not an issue.
I just want to avoid changing rotors every 200 miles ...

what you need to check is the thickness of the rotor

The thickness is ok but you can clearly see on the inside and outside of the rotor some deeps scratch due to overheating of the pads.

Anyway I will wait for some news products/pads maybe from hawkperformance and try next year different setup

I ran blue stuff for 180 track miles.

Fronts are at 50% remaining
Rears are at 80% remaining

Previously ran stock pads for 90 track miles and the front and rear wore evenly to 60% remaining

Rotors are smooth. Scoring is superficial.

What makes you think you need to replace your rotors.

Scoring with drilled rotors is kind of common cause the pad bites on the edges

No idea why they drill them, that makes them more easy to crack

Thank you

Your front and rear rotors looks brand new compare to mine
My front rotors have deep scoring maybe it is not super obvious from my pictures but the surface is not smooth at all especially on the inner and outer parts of the rotor (only the front one)

I think I will replace everything with OEM again and just keep a slower pace only doing 1 or 2 fast laps then wait them to cooldown.
Or if a European tuner offers a solution with german certification TUV I might consider it.

Were you on a track with lots of crap on the surface? Maybe you got some pebbles in there?

Because it looks good, and both Porsche and Ferrari do it. Marketing.

I think in the old days, the rotors may have stayed a little cooler with the holes, and they allowed pads to outgas better without floating. I call them cheese graters.

You could also argue that it makes the rotors lighter as well.

It doesn't look good when it happens when you are going 100mph

So... +1 to wearing thru rear pads in one day on track. I was at VIR this weekend, 5 sessions, they are GONE. I did run a 2:07 so I'm more than impressed with this car.

Does anyone know where I can find Blue Stuff in stock for the fronts? Or at least who I can order with? I've had rears on order for about 2 months now.

Thanks!

Thank you! I may try the new one but want to run the Blue Stuff first to see how they do. I am ordering now, thank you again!

I have run 5 days of 140 - 160 miles per day of "spirited driving" and a total of 9700 miles on the original set of pads. I am pretty close to the wear sensors on the rear and will be getting a new set when the 10000 mile service is done.

Looking at "Blue Stuff", but the OEM seem like a really good all-around pad.

Track driving creates very high brake temps that cause the street pads to melt, and smear on the rotors, causing much lower friction coefficients. stock brake compounds are made to have high "cold bite".

You cannot generate this kind of heat outside of a track environment unless your doing full throttle to 130 then panic braking to 50 over and over again for 30 mins straight. Thats the kind of abuse the track does to the car, coupled with turning at the limit of grip on tires.

Conversely track pads are very very hard, and cold will wear very quickly when on the street due to their design to have high friction at very high temps of +600f. These type of pads will also grind your rotors down with repeated street use cold.

Blue stuff is a hybrid that has good high temp track grip and cold street grip. Not as good in the street as stock, and very dirty. Its also wearing my front rotors a bit. But they grab really well when hot after bedding in and burning off the solvents.

Does anyone have any experience with YELLOW STUFF from EBC on track? I have had blue stuff rears on order for a long time and cannot get any indication on when I might get them. I was able to get Blue Stuff fronts...

I can get the yellow so I am thinking about buying 2 sets to have since this car eats rear brakes on track!

I think you will wear them as quickly as stock since they are optimized for lower operating temp. Might be doable mixing them with blue up front.

counter-space garage has track pads for g80 if you want to spring for them

I just left a message with them to call me. I might just do it and see how they work. Next track event is February and I am getting worried that I will not have rear brakes.

I ordered a set from Carbotech

XP20 compound for front
and
XP10 for rear

They are MAKING them, pre-bedding in their oven and I will have them next week ~$650 delivered. Cant wait to try them, had an excellent conversation with them, asked about the car, what tires, what track and then he made the suggestion.

I will report back after I run them.
