I've been dying to replace the knob since I picked up my G80. So just yank the old one up and out, dab some super glue, then pound the new one into place?

Did the knob mod as well. Wish I could find the mperf cf knob without the boot but this is still pretty nice. I had the mperf cf knob and alcantara tristitched boot on my f82 and loved it.

I bought this same one but haven't installed it yet... Read through this thread and it's not clear to me what the best way to do it is.

Did you put it in 2nd gear and pull from the backseat? Mess with the boot at all? Also did you add a touch of glue?

Did this in my last 3 bimmers and they're all the same. Unclip the boot, put it in 2nd, plant the right foot on the floor, left all the way down on the clutch, and pull the knob off.

Don't pop a blood vessel and don't hit yourself in the head with the knob Both almost happened this time around.

Glue is not necessary but I did it on this one.

If you're willing to do a little bit of fabrication, you can use the F8x knobs on the G8x.
All you have to do is reuse the substrate from the stock boot and glue the F8x boot onto the stock, square substrate.

Apparently, I tapped into a different power source that made the illumination stay on a few seconds after ignition off.

This looks great!! This is a different knob than what you had in originally correct? You had some sort of performance one but didn't remember it being lighted.

You won't. Not unless someone wants to sell a used one.

I had to buy the shifter with the boot when all I wanted was the boot. Before then, I was looking for that CF knob and couldn't find it alone - you gotta buy the entire thing.
