Anyone else paranoid the dealer will drive your car in service?
I'm a paranoid freak, I know... but the thought of someone beating on my car while in the service centers hands makes me very nervous

I used to feel this way may years ago. Then I remembered my dealership sees hundreds of cars that are like or more powerful than mine. The odds of a tech waking up that day and saying "I'm going to beat on THIS car today" are pretty much nil. They have way too much on their plate and way more cars to get through than to have the time to go out and mash your car off the rev limited.
Check your odometer on the way in, check it again on the way out. I've had dashcams on my cars for years and occasionally I'll look through them after a service appt. I've never seen anything out of the ordinary, other than one tech complaining about the cold start on the DINAN exhaust on my F87. Can't live your life being paranoid. It's just a car. |

Just brought in my f90 LCI in for the 1200 mile service last month. I also had an issue with pairing the tpms sensor with the car. Knowing they had to drive the car to figure out the tpms issue, I figured there would be anywhere from 5-15 miles on the car. I got it back with 50 more miles on the odometer.
Also, my m1 configuration was changed to sport plus everything and the shift bars was at 3 and "manual shifting". I put in a call to the service advisor and he said the settings being changed could have been due to an update and didn't have much to say about the miles. The car is a lease so I didn't really care that much, it was more the inconvenience of having to go back through all my settings in case others were changed - but if you're going to drive the car spiritedly, I wish they would at least change the settings back so I wouldn't know. |

Can't say I've really ever been concerned about it. My dealer picks it up from my house and it's always been fine. Certainly beats me taking the 25min to drive down to the dealer to drop it off and get a loaner or just wait for it.

It's a BMW! So no, I don't worry about it. If I had a high end exotic, then I would be a bit nervous. Like someone posted above, they see hundreds of cars a week! You M whatever, is spam to them. Like Honda, Nissan and Toyota

Heck, lately I've been begging them to drive my car (G30) more when it's in for service to make sure that they fixed it all the first time. The last time they had, they actually put some gas in for me! And lastly, yes, even if they "beat on it" a little bit, taking it up to redline and making sure that it can generate full boost, these cars are designed and built to take it. I'm guessing that you've never done an HPDE or track day. If you had, you'd know that you can beat on these things all day long and they can take it and ask for more.

So funny story about the opposite problem. I currently have an AMG coming off lease this winter. I went this week to have the performance tires put back on that car. So the Mercedes Me app has valet mode so I get alerts when the car is started and when it leaves a set radius. I dropped off the car for a 7:30AM appointment and was told the tires would be on by noon and I left in loaner. I didn't have any plans for the day so I didn't care how long it took.
At 2:00 I hadn't heard anything so I called the dealer. I asked for a status report so I could plan my WFH day around it. He said they were behind but the car was being worked on as we speak and should be done soon. I told him that he should be more honest with me. Due to the App that he knows I subscribe to, I could tell that the car had not moved from the spot I put it in when I dropped it off and it hadn't been started since I locked the doors. I don't care if you run behind. I mean stuff happens. But don't lie to me.

It happens, nothing new and if something happens to the car then it is their a** on the line. How I know? I personally knew some mechanics at a certain BMW dealership. Like I said, they have more to lose if they damage the car so its not going to happen often especially if the turn around is a day. They justify it by needing to drive it to replicate whatever problem you had. Valet mode? Whatever is making the car run not normal they are going to disable it to properly diagnose it... you're taking it to BMW after all.
