Manual makes the car much more engaging to me, zero regrets. I take the train to work though, so not dealing with traffic made my decision super easy.

There is no right or wrong. You choose what YOU like, it's your money after all.

But since i already started to make this post, i'll finish it. I didn't get the manual but i do understand why most will. It's probably the last time you'll get that opportunity.

After 20+ years of driving manual, this wasn't the car i was going to experiment with in owning as a manual. If i wanted to go yeah go manual save the manuals! I'd start a project car and LS swap an S2000 or something.

I picked the "boring" comp.

Just wanted to add to my post i made almost a month ago.

So i finally picked up the M3C a couple of days ago. Only put like 100 miles lol. So i didn't beat on it to see what this power is like but just wanted to make some comments on the trans itself.

It is absolutely amazing how the shift schedule differs depending on drive mode (as is on most performance cars with a ZF8). The trans hold it's gear JUST RIGHT. LOVE LOVE LOVE the downshifts (auto downshifts) when you're in sport plus.

This car feels special and i wouldn't even think twice about getting this car in a manual. I don't even want to know, out of curiosity, how this car is in a manual.

This car is so advanced, the seating position is so perfect for me, i feel like i'm in a real GTLM car lol. Sit low, steering wheel close to you, holding the wheel at 10 & 2, with your finger tips ready at the paddles.

It's such a good feeling. This is a high tech car. I wouldn't want to make it analog by having a manual.

I'm guessing, but in 50 years someone is going to ask? What is a Manual Transmission?....... Just my opinion! My G82 M4 Comp is not for a track or daily driver. Weekend fun.

My base M4 just arrived on Friday, and I don't think I've stopped smiling since. I had driven a base M4 before, so I thought I had an idea of what I was getting, but this car has been so much more amazing than I was expecting. The clutch and shifter are better than I remembered, and they seem to only get better as they break in. The power is already way more than you can really make use of on public roads, so I don't feel like I'm missing the extra power of the Comp.

I've never owned a fancy car before, and I'm still having to pinch myself that I'm lucky enough to have this M4. I was more concerned with getting something fun to drive rather than something practical, and getting the manual was the absolute right choice for me.

Took a bit of getting used to after not driving a manual in two years but I absolutely love it. No regrets.

I went 7 years and 362 days between manuals after driving nothing but manuals for around 24 years. I owned a few rusted out auto horrors in first couple of years of driving in the late 80's but never looked back when I went to a manual in 1989...until I sold my last RSX-S in 2013.

I was RUSTY on that first drive from the dealership...but was comfortable with it after about two days, and it was like I never left manual cars after a week or so. 8 months later, I can't believe I ever let go of this experience.

Do you think BMW will ever offer manual for the Competition trim? After LCI possibly?

Coming from '18 F80 Comp manual here….

I think it's a pipe dream, but want to know everyone's speculation on the possibility of LCI Comp with manual offering.

I could see 6mt maybe getting a power bump to be even with competition. However that would take a re-rate of the manual transmission so I'd be doubtful. At the end of the day the differences outside the trans are the power bump and the stitching on the seatbelts at least on us cars. Otherwise identical.

I will be placing an order at some point (sooner or later), and am struggling to make a decision on this option. I've owned a couple of manual BMW's in the past (E39 530i, F23 M240i), and have enjoyed them tremendously. I still struggled to get a consistently smooth 1-2 upshift on the 240, and occasionally I'd miss a gear, but in general they provided a wonderful level of driver involvement and control. So, I'm definitely leaning towards selecting the Base model for these reasons, as well as the fact that it may well be the last (new) manual car I can buy*.

That said... this will be my first M car, and I'm buying it because it's a high performance vehicle. I don't plan to track it (at least not on any regular basis), so I'm trying to gauge whether the Base output will be "sufficient," or whether I'll be left wanting more. "Sufficient" in this context meaning it still puts a stupid grin on my face when I hammer it. I owned an F30 340i xDrive with the ZF 8AT, and that engine (rated at 320hp/320tq) felt amazing at first, but inevitably lost some of the wow factor over time. (I realize this happens no matter what you buy, alas...)

So: I'm curious to hear from 6MT owners: Any regrets with your choice? Either with respect to shift/clutch quality, or with the lower hp/tq output?

Thanks in advance!

* Interestingly, even back in 2001, when I placed my order for the 530i 6MT, the dealer had no manual 5-series available to test-drive, and was so nervous about potentially being saddled with one should I bail out, that they asked for a double-sized non-refundable deposit. So I've been hearing the "no one buys manuals anymore" shtick for a while now...
"No regerts" here. But I do wonder how much faster the Competition model feels. Dive both if you can. If you're on the fence, I'd go with the auto. You know if you're a 'gotta have a manual' guy or not, presumably. If that's not you, go with the auto.

I'll have to agree with this suggestion.
I'm a hardcore manual guy, so auto was not even a consideration for me.

The power & performance difference between the comp and non-comp is significant and I bet the difference is much bigger in real world situations.
If auto is not a deal breaker, I say go with the comp.

Is the M3 the last 6mt/RWD sedan left?

How is the shifter/clutch compared to an F30 340/440?

No, the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V BW are also 6MT/RWD sedans. Those two are more unobtanium than the G8x MT's are, though. I don't know that there are very many others; perhaps there are a few in other markets.
