Really sad they can’t find a pad that bites well and doesn’t sound like a school bus. The brakes on my M850 have giant discs with hefty 6pot calipers and 0 squeal. All my 911’s/turbos never made a peep. I don’t get it.

Great write up. Beautiful car and color combination. But of course I am bias. Looking forward to you doing possibly a 6 month review. Probably at the end of summer. Drive safe and enjoy that beautiful toy.

I went from f87 to g80 to gt3 992.

The f87 was an incredible m car with everything I remember from the e46. Perfect weight to power, great steering. No bs. The g80 was not what I expected. It was heavy feeling with a long back end. It performed horribly at the track and the quality of the interior was horrible. After less than 6 months my carbon buckets had leather damage, the steering wheel was damaged and the doors leather. BMW refused to help with any issues. Not to mention it was burning coolant at an aggressive level.

Got my gt3 and I’m in love. I don’t have the same feeling I had when I got my g87 but the gt3 is truly perfect. Every detail is perfectly designed. They have managed to know what interior parts would wear and used the right materials in the right places. I don’t have to tell you about driving it because it’s a Porsche gt car and you know it performs flawlessly. The only negative is the gas mileage but we all knew that was a thing. BMW needs to figure their shit out. They need to fix the quality of the interior and truly compete with high end cars. They have watered down the m program and disappointed fanboys like me. Something has to give.

Dude I recognized this car right away.. You live right down the road from me lol and I would see your 911 in the Dunkin parking lot on my way to work until I saw the g80 recently, that color with the kylami orange I dig! At first im like did this guy sell his Porsche for a BMW?? It’s supposed to be the other way around! haha but yeah the g80 is newer and nicer imo and has all the updated technology, at least until you get that gt3 your talking about now that would be awesome!!

BTW, for brake dust, I changed my pads to ceramic pads on my f90. No squeeling, much less dust. No noticeable performance difference.

Same.

I like to drive my M’s - even as a third car, it’s a 15k miles/year run rate. In the Porsche it’s not comfortable enough for that mileage - at least in a GTS or GT4 - and depreciation and maintenance is a big penalty at that mileage. So less time driving, substantially more cost, marginally better performance…

The proper use case for a GT4 or GTS or GT3 is the occasional weekend jaunt to the mountains, showing it off at car shows, and then selling it for as much or more than you paid for it with low miles.

That’s not my use case. It does appear that 991 and 992 prices are dropping based on BAT trends, so picking up a 7MT S and driving it might be a possibility at some point.

Nice review! Also a former Porsche 911 owner and I find the M4 much more suited for normal car things. I also hated the brake squeal and got a set of iSweep 1500s (I reviewed them here: https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30060412 ). Best mod I did, and should have done it week 1 of ownership.

I still have a V8 M3, and I can literally watch the needle move during aggressive driving.

So yeah, you've simply forgotten... The S58 in the G8X is wayyyyy more efficient, even when I'm driving like a bat out of hell.
Ah, I remember that needle moving on my e92 back in the days. But man, that engine/exhaust sound was so cool to hear.

Wow it's so crazy how many people I meet that know the Lava GTS lol. Ran into another one today at the Ferrari meet in West Hartford CT.

Yeah for me it was 20+ straight years of BMW's, mainly M cars, and I finally bought a 911...and what a "starter 911" it was The thing was though...it wasn't a GT car lol. Wanted a GT3 for sooo long that I prob shoulda waited a bit but I also have ZERO regrets with the GTS as it was an incredible ride. The future holds another orange 911...likely with a NA engine a 9k redline! See you around

Awesome! Any issues at all with fitment/hookup, etc? Most everyone I've heard from say it's easy peasy but there were a couple of posts I stumbled across that mentioned there were some odd fitment headaches? Let me know...and I'll be having my tuner shop do these with the new VT Forged wheels in a couple weeks!

Interior protection and warranty for the leather and buckets is a must. That said, 1) your comparo ding on G80 with “high end cars” shouldn’t include the GT3 when you could have 3 or 4 G80’s for the price.
2) the f87 was probably the worst M car ever. Your BS definition should include fake noise, small tires, cheap interior, and a lousy suspension/chassis setup.

The g80 is not a sports car, it’s a sports sedan. Think you expected too much from it? I’ve had two G80s and the interior has been excellent for me.

No problems with the install at all, and no problems in the year that I've had them. Squeal is gone, but the BMW M car bite is still there.

Funny thing is there is zero squeal from my brakes but plenty of dust. Mine is a 2024. Don’t know if that makes any difference?

I can't speak to the lineage of vehicles you've owned and driven. However, coming from the likes of Subaru STI's, Mustang GT 5.0's, and don't laugh, MazdaSpeed3's ( actually pushing 300 HP with mods) as I saved for 10+ years for my baby now, this thing is a dream to drive. I echo every pro you listed and for me, due my peasant lineage, I have zero cons... except for the brake dust!

Thanks again, great review!
No reason to laugh - I drove a MazdaSpeed6 for awhile and really appreciated it. Now I need to get my G82 MT out of the break in period and start appreciating that!

Great review and I agree on all points! Mine is also a Tanzanite over Kayalami xDrive and I love it. It’s luxury spec with sport seats and moonroof because I bought it to daily and I have a 997.2 Carrera S in the garage as well. The performance of the M3 is amazing; probably better in every way to my 911 but the Porsche is still more satisfying to drive and is more of a “feel” car.

I love the front end now that I have a new grill, I still absolutely detest the travesty of the tacked-on ID8 screen (although I appreciate the functionality) and yeah the noisy brakes are annoying. Otherwise, fantastic car and ultra-capable for a daily.
