I think there is a lot more to it than BMW, specifically the shipping side of things.

As we all know, logistics are a total cluster F right now and ocean shipping is no exception. Ports are seeing strikes, lack of workers, etc. Boats are short of crews so less are running. This then backs up the ports, which backs up when things can ship out, etc.

They having timing down pretty good. If they know there is going to be a big delay at a given port, the boat might be delayed a few days or rescheduled to skip that port entirely, thus your car might get stuck waiting for the next ship.

It sucks for sure, especially when we are this far along. It pains me to know my car is just sitting outside in Germany when it could be in transit to me and thus to my garage. But this is the situation. It's a bit exciting and crushingly disappointing at the same time. When we do get our cars though, we'll have a great story to tell ages from now.

I know it's tempting for us to discern patterns or reasons why one car gets on a boat sooner than others. I agree it's not FIFO, at least not strictly so. But otherwise I think there's just a lot of variables and challenges they're dealing with, many outside of their control, that affect these logistics.

(Though I completely doubt they're factoring in customer or dealer details, or financing considerations. They've got enough to worry about.)

Definitely agree on dealer to dealer difference AND the options, no doubt actually, but was just wondering if that was another potential factor that presented itself based on what I experienced last week

Someone ought to create a detailed guide about ordering and tracking BMWs. It could be pinned and easily referenced.

No, I'm fairly certain that manufacturers tell the shipping companies which vehicles to load and where they're headed.
I have alot of theories on how they schedule but I am wondering if the finances are taken in account (for revenue purposes)? I.e: cash vs finance vs lease, if lease or finance what is the money down etc.... I know it's a long shot but wouldn't that be a possibility or am I over thinking this?

Also, I see a trend of people waiting on allocations for months and others getting it right away and the right away people get in and out of production quickly. But then these people got stuck at ports and the people waiting long and got delayed the most get on ships faster.
In my deposit was put down 10/28/2021 allocation came 2/27/2022 for production week 9. I just hit 151 today for week 21 production.
Others put deposit mid jan and got allocations end of January went into production end of Feb/ beginning of March. (I understand that each dealership differs as each geography has different demand)

Anyone can oppose or validate my observation?
Not a lot of information sent to BMW prior to completion of paperwork from the dealership. Dealerships are separate business. I'm not sure anyone but BMW knows why some cars get through the way they do. One thought I had, does the performance delivery affect priority or not.

In short dealerships can affect who gets an allocation, but after that it's bmw and they seem to do what they want. My guess is logistics and smallest financial impact.

Haha same. But when the next stage hits you get that nice dopamine rush for about a day until the dread of "ok time for the next delay" kicks in.

For me, once its gets on the boat I'm fearful of long delays at the VPC.

And if that fails, remember BMW won’t make a dime until we get our cars so what do you think they’re doing right now? Working their butts off to get our cars onto the next boat!! KHA!!

Or the ship catching fire, or sinking, or the wife finding out how much you really paid for it, or where the kids college fund went, or the US going to war with BMW. I got a million of them!! KHA!!
