100% agree with you: it would be the perfect solution for someone who would like the performance of an M3 but needs more cargo space and is not willing to buy two different cars (an M3 and an SUV) to have both things.

The M3 Touring would be an elegant solution to the conundrum.

Yeah, I'm not convinced, TBH. Going back to Audi: they don't sell the A6 Avant in the US, but somehow managed to make the RS6 legal to sell over here.

I'm sure BMW would sell the M3 Touring in greater numbers than the RS6 given its lower price and brand appeal.

They do: A6 Allroad. And so does Merc.
So, the quote above that crash protocols are too strict is inaccurate and not the whole story.

Simply put: crash testing an entirely new platform for NA market is expensive. Audi, Merc, Volvo have done it, so they can just bring performance versions based on that chassis. Starting from scratch for a niche vehicle run doesn't have a good business case.

The dream for us wagonistas died with the F31.

F%$*, I forgot about that f%$*ing thing that is the Allroad... You're right.

Oh well, I look forward to getting the RS6 when I get an allocation. I spec'ed it with sports suspension replacing the standard air suspension, ceramic brakes, etc., so from what I see on the reviews it will be a very nice daily driver that can turn into a monster when desired. Would I prefer if it was a Bimmer? You bet. But I shall keep the G23 alongside it.

That's like saying to the buyer: if you want the performance you have to go the sedan route or an SUV.

Then the Audi A6. The last one offered here was the Allroad, which again, is a nice car but who wants an off-roader wagon? MB has enjoyed quite a bit of success with the E-class wagon, and Audi seems to be selling as many RS6s as they can route this way. I'm on a waiting list for one and don't expect to get it until H2-2023 the earliest.

I believe that if BMW was to offer the M3 Touring over here for a price comparable to the sedan it would sell like hotcakes. I would certainly want one.
When an off-roader gets lowered. I'm glad there are any wagons still offered. Would of liked the m3 to come.

Wagons have really just gotten to a price pt where it's not practical. Above 120k for the family hauler is tough math.

?
You see him driving with the old system.
But as this is a prototype it doesn't mean much, I still think it will get the new one.

I just trade my M8C for a M3 Touring .
They invite me on May 18 in Zurich to see the car . ( I don't think it will be possible to drive it ) .
At the moment from my dealer no more info if the car will be equipped with the ID8 .
They told me after a call in BMW that the car will come with the ald ID7 and probably will be ordinable from June 2022 delivery NOV 2022 .

Same for the carbon roof , no INFO .

More info will be after May 18 .

if they confirm ID 8 and delivery NOV 22 I will wait otherwise i will move to the M3C delivery July 22 .

Yeah, I will also be there on May 18. I wonder if they even reveal the Touring with ID8, if the LCI is not yet revealed.

For sure they will reveal the Touring ( I HOPE ), " my dealer invite me only for this reason " .

When I have ordered my X4M on July 2019 the car was equipped with ID6 and after two months they have started with ID7 , so it will be possible that the first productions will come outside LCI but inside ID7

two weeks time more and we will see !...

They didn't promise any delivery time , they just told me that probably BMW open the customers orders on June 2022 and usually you have to calculate 5/6 months .
Same was for the X3M/X4M , march in the web , end of May the firts demo cars arrive to the dealer and end of June mid of July the customers car . So more or less from the presentation 5/6 Mounths .

This was pre-covid and chip crisis .

If they do offer it for the US market I hope they keep the option to switch to RWD.

My dealer has scheduled "M Town Events" here in Zurich each day from May 9-21 22 that one can sign up to. One point on the agenda is: "Reveal of new M car". He confirmed to me hat it will be M3 Touring. So I guess we should see her in her full beauty from 9th onwards.

Yes, that's the one. I was so excited about it but chose not to sign up. Latest expected delivery date for my M3C is week 24 (early June). After countless delays I hope this will be the one. I would switch to the Touring instantly if not for:
- Another god knows how many months of wait
- Financing conditions have worsened
So I take my M3C (if and when it arrives) and decide in a few months if a switch makes sense or not. Crazy times and crazy markets, so who knows.
