Can we discuss all the BMW "Protection Products" they try to sell you at closing?

As a leaser, are there any of these worth considering based on your experience?

-Lease End Protection
-GAP Coverage
-Tire & Wheel
-Windshield
-Paintless Dent Repair
-Key Protection
-All Surface Protection

I don't know the cost of any of these nor if they are negotiable. So, any insight you can provide would be most helpful.

Thanks.

It's all nonsense, especially gap coverage since BMW leases already have that built in.

If you live in NJ then the tire/wheel warranty might be worthwhile. Alabama, no.

If the US is the same as UK, I wouldn't buy any of their additional insurance products or services.

As an example, BMW UK offered me £50,000 of gap insurance cover for £1,700, whereas I bought the same cover from a reputable insurance company for under £300.

They also quoted me £470 for tyre insurance….it only cost me £420 to insure my brand new G82 M4 Comp xDrive, fully comprehensive, for a whole year.

Ridiculous.

Yup. I went through this when i picked up the car. I already knew they would, just like any new car you buy/lease. I was ready to say no. Didn't even think about it. I just let the finance guy say his whole piece which includes him scaring you about "costly" repairs if you don't get any of it. Some finance guys are more well versed than others. Suggesting a scenario in it's worse case so that you might second doubt your decision if you did in fact know you were going to say no before even talking to the guy.

None of that worked for me. Although the wheel/tire i almost got lol. Because i live in NJ. But because of how often i damaged my wheels (which was never) on all my corvettes, and all my cars, including my dailys which i don't care about much, i decided not to get the wheel/tire coverage.

Wheel and tyre insurance is probably the only thing I'll be going for when I sign in a week or so.

I'm not quite sure how BMW's wheel and tyre insurance works, but Porsche's was great. They replaced several tyres and fixed the slight finish damage from rocks on a non OEM wheel. Definitely pays for itself over time if you live around crappy roads.

Wheel and tire is definitely worth it. Just brought or towed to dealer and they took care of it. All the prices are negotiable usually there is a fair bit of room to play with.

The Wheel and Tire is the only one that appeals to me. I've had several pothole incidents at my own expense. How much is the Tire and Wheel plan, anyone know?

I've been quoted upwards of $2,000 for tire and wheel. I only bought it on one car that I've had and I think it was a mistake. If you do decide to go down that road, make sure to read the coverage list very carefully. Some have a very narrow definition of covered events. I've seen packages that include the repair all all cosmetic curb rash and flat tires. Then I've seen others that only kick if if the wheel is damaged enough to not allow the tire to hold air.

I believe it was $2000 as stated by merlin.

It does make the most sense out of all the packages they offer. I just couldn't do it because i never had an issue like that in 10+ years.

I was offered various options, but decided not to purchase any of it. Overpriced

I agree that most important one is the tire/wheel protection as it has the most likelihood to happen.

For tires, I went to discounttire directly from the dealership and got the tire certificates for $250. This provides full replacement coverage(if can't be repaired).

For wheels, decided to use my auto insurance if it happens. Question is how many times in a 3 year period we anticipate this to happen ? Hopefully, not more than once or twice.

We all are different and decide based on your risk appetite…

Thanks,
TJ

I agree, wheel and tire. I have had it on 3 M3's so far and it has probably been a break even proposition versus replacing punctured tires and no wheel replacements. If you had to replace a wheel it has to make sense.
The latest BMW wheel and tire doesn't cover cosmetics (e.g. curb rash) as standard, only tire replacement and wheel damage (e.g. bent rim)
The ding protection (can't remember the name) does cover wheel cosmetic damage but is expensive.
Also as mentioned above these are always negotiable. I held out on all the above and the dealer finally threw in wheel and tire for about $3/month on the lease. My guess is the salesperson / finance guy was on a bonus plan for how many of these upsells he closed.

Only one offered by the dealer here in mexico was the wheel and tire.
I took it because the roads in some places can be like a war zone

As many others have mentioned, Wheel and Tire is worth it. I have it on my current BMW, definitely saved my $$, two replacements in three years. Otherwise the rest isn't worth it at all IMO.

I think I will get PPF on the front of the car but not through the dealer

Tire and wheel package here. The moment you get 2 nails it pays for it self.

Have not use on the M3 yet

However,

On my wife X4M I have replaced all 4 tires already using the insurance…

I went and paid for the prepaid maintenance package and they took $500 off.

Was $2500 and I'm a big complainer about everything when the warranty is about to be up so I'll be forcing them to replace rotors/pads and just about anything I can convince them to do.

Wheel and tire is hit/miss. 10 years ago when I lived in RI, I used it 3 times. Since then, I have only had 1 tire incident.

So it's hard to play that risk/reward. Had I paid for each subsequent car (when the price went up from $750 to $2000), I'd be out $6k in the 10 year period where I only had 1 tire incident recently - which cost me $600 since I had to buy 2 tires. I'd still be down $5700 - since I would have had to replace the 2nd tire on my own accord given the age of the front tires.

Take the 2k and invest it with the expectation that you only use it for your car. Watch it grow and then use it when you need it as your insurance policy.

My G82 is my 31st car and only the second car that I've gotten wheel and tire on. The first being my 21 Accord Touring that I bought last February. I had the car 2 weeks and killed the wheel in a tight drive thru. It's my commuter, so, it's going to see more damage. The wheel and tire was $511 with Honda. The wheel was $636 and labor was $103. Paid for itself and they completely replaced the wheel.

If I remember, correctly, BMW wanted $2,500 for wheel and tire, at my dealer. I declined it, they dropped it to $1,500 I declined it, then to $1,250. I said, "you're relentless, aren't you?" Took wheel and tire, Didn't buy anything else.

Yeah, finally had to throw some salesman speak, at him. I said "no pound or pack" I sold cars for a little while. He knew where I was coming from after that one little comment.

It's all a bunch of BS, and simply a way of inflating the purchase price and the Finance person receives a percentage of whatever crap he or she can sell.
