Assign M Mode to M Button?

Seems like the car always starts in the "Road" M Mode rather than "Sport". Is there a way to change the default or to map a certain m mode to an m button? Otherwise I find myself having to press both the M1 (to get the settings) and M Mode (to turn off annoying driving intervention features + get the sport gauge) buttons every time I start the car.

Unfortunately, no. M mode always starts in ROAD and SPORT mode cannot be tied to M1 or M2 buttons.

The M Mode button beside the gear shifter brings you in to M mode with the M heads up display and turns off some of the interventions. The halo button beside the air vent also can turn off the driver aids

Or do you need something else?

...Bimmercode? I coded my X5 to start in sport individual and the sport modes don't allow ASS. So maybe you can program it to start in the desired mode.

I’m sure it can be coded to start in sport. But would you really want that?

Is it really that big of a deal to press M1 and M Mode? It takes 2 seconds. Or do you want it to start that way for a cold start?

I would, I drive in Sport+ 99% of the time. But it’s not that big of a deal to have to press the button, and it’s 2nd nature at this point.

Sure but when leaving my residential neighborhood with its slow speeds, not sure what Sport+ does for me. Perfectly happy to engage it when I have the appropriate driving conditions.

Its so stupid that it can't be added to the m1 or M2 settings. Like why not?

It should be an option in the M1/M2 menu. It's something so simple that we would all like.

Follow-up question - when you set your drive settings with M1 for example, and then set Sport with the M Mode button - which dynamic drive settings are retained? Reason I ask is because M Mode not only disables drive assistants and sets the gauge screen, it also sets everything to sport except ASS, DCS, and sound (which are hard buttons). Just trying to understand the end-to-end logic of M1/M2, M Mode, drive assistants, and the dynamic settings. Wish there was a flow chart...

M Mode does nothing to any settings for M1 or M2 buttons, it just changes the instrument panel, HUD, and intelligent safety features/driving assistance.

Yes, and M HUD was an M1/M2 setting in the F80/82. This is a step backwards, and annoying

This is the biggest usability fail, IMO. My M2 button is set to S3 tranny setting. When in S3, I want the tach in the HUD. In my F80, I could just press my M2 button and it would also change my HUD view.

They thought to add a sound control setting in M1/M2, but not this? Very annoying.

This is a gripe that I have as well. The F8x generation allowed you to do it (albeit, that generation didn't have as much tech, but you could activate the M HUD as an option under M1/2).

I know it's just pushing one extra button, and I'm used to it now, but would be convenient if it were tied to my M2 button automatically.

Does it not set engine, chassis, steering, brakes, etc. to SPORT when you put it in Sport mode? Just wondering if those override any of the same settings as saved in M1/M2. For example let's say you have Sport+ engine and comfort steering saved in M1. After pressing M1 then you press M Mode to select Sport. Does engine stay Sport+ and steering stay Comfort or do they all change to Sport?

You can easily verify this in your car by going to the setup screen by pressing the setup button. Then you can press M1, M2, etc and see how those buttons change settings.

You're confusing m1/m2 to m mode. M1/2 is setup and m mode is just the display change. Changing the m mode will not alter any setups you have saved in m1/2

To give you a better idea of how it flows: I either choose m1 or m2 depending what setup I want for the drive. Then I select the M mode button to change the display if desired (which is most of the time).
