Slight drone with valvetronic midpipe?

Hey guys! I was wondering if ya’ll can give me some advice on this and what I should do

So I recently installed a valvetronic midpipe on my car(1st gen), as well as a dahler valve controller

I noticed if i open the flaps and drive there is a decent amount of interior drone when driving in 2nd gear + in rpm ranges from 1.5-3k rpm’s, nobody I drive with really notices but it’s been getting on my nerves when I need to drive up a hill in 4th

Anyone know is this a problem with all the mid pipes? Does the newer valvetronics midpipe fix this issue? Should I go the AA or IRL midpipe instead?

What do you guys think I should do, this drone really kills the enjoyment of the car

My car is the 6MT if that makes a difference

Thanks in advance

It's normal, pretty much every exhaust will have some drone.

This....I have the MAD non-resonated and hit drones at times in the 2k rpm range at time when the valves are at 100%. You eventually get use to it. You can also just put it in stock mode if you have a valve controller.

Yup the valve controller contributes to it, that's probably why the valves don't fully open at part throttle.

of course it drones a little dude, why do you think BMW puts 4 resonators and a ridiculously complex exhaust flap control scheme in the car from the factory? When you make these types of mods, there are trade-offs.

This^ Typically way more noticeable with a valve controller. This is the first bmw I have had that doesn't allow fully open valves in stock configuration.

Thanks for the reply guys! It all makes sense about the drone, when I default to the standard sport plus without activating my valve controller the drone is non existent, but once I open the flaps that’s when the drone appears, if there isn’t a fix then It is what it is! Thanks for the reassurance guys

Have you tried turning off the exhaust sound control button and opening the valves with your controller? Maybe the fake noise is causing part of the issue

I revert to stock settings when driving and flip open full flap mode when I want to show off.

in my opinion, disabling the fake sound does help

Just incase you happened to not know. I connected my mirror buttons to open / closed (stock) on Dahler controller. Easy as it gets to go stock efficient mode when I’m wanting 0 drone (EL Valvetronic v2 midpipe)

I just did the valvetronic axle back with the valvetronic el mid pipe. What a difference. Mid pipe alone I never drove around with the valves open unless I was in sport/sport+ mode because it did drone a little bit. Once I put the axle back, the drone is not as apparent when driving in comfort modes and I tend to drive with the valves open a lot more. IMO the stock muffler holds a lot of noise in the cabin.

This is an area where the Awron CANFlap excels at. For those exhaust systems that have drone at a particular RPM, you can set the flaps to close between that specific window (1500-3000RPM in your case) in the user settings and essentially "tune out" the drone.

If looking to switch midpipes, we like the Evolution Racewerks midpipes, they fit and sound great.

Correct, it muffles a lot of noise, and that could be good or bad depending on the person.
