Here in Germany tinting of car glass (front and sides) is forbidden for good reason. The light you keep out in day time is the one you miss at night.
In general, there’s a lot of tech that’s good and bad for human consumption. Some governments protect their citizens from overexposure some do not. That’s just the way it is.

May I ask what ailment(s) were helped by UV exposure? I know some animals require it for survival (for example my pet turtle) but I am not aware of human need for UV.
I don’t know exactly, but atm, as humans we at times need to go back to basics. Look into the Dr Lisa “left eye” Lopez went to before her tragic death. Her life as a superstar pinned up to the world, she felt the need or was informed by her attaches, she was in need for a cleanse. She went to the his facility with her female friends, and it was an absolute wonder to see her natural beauty. Clean water sauna etc you name it. I dunno something to ponder

This cannot possibly be true. I have MANY times gotten uneven suntan (caused primarily by UVA) or even sunburn (primarily UVB) on the side of my body facing a vehicle's windows. Research agrees with this:

Quote:
Research has found that while the front windshield blocks 94 percent of UVA rays, the driver's side window only blocked 71 percent. To date, multiple studies have shown those that spend much of their time driving have an increased risk of skin cancer and UV-induced skin damage on the side of their body exposed to the sun. This damage is primarily due to the UVA light passing through the driver's side window.

I would consider 94% block from the front and 71% block from the side pretty good which is what article above talks about. Even with sunscreen only blocks about 50% of the UV radiation.

I like tint though, I don’t get black out. I like that it keeps interior cooler and a little darker and it’s not as easy to see inside. But again I don’t get black out.

Not so often anymore, only a couple trips each summer that are 3-6 hrs each way for sports tournaments. That'll be different this year as we'll be spending about 40 hrs on the road over the course of 5 days (2 there, 1 in the middle, 2 back) for vacation.

But back in the day I would go 3.5hrs each way to visit friends at college a few times a month, and I spent about 8 years doing field service for banks, so a lot of short-distance travel from branch to branch during the day.

I like the fishbowl look better than tint. But I also enjoy the sun protection, glare reduction, and privacy that comes from tint. So I have tint.

Much cooler than the alternative - if you live in a hot climate.

IMHO in terms of how the car looks, there is a bit more of a “classic” appearance without tint, especially with certain colors. On the other hand, certain colors lend themselves to tinting - like alpine white with black wheels or SSG with a dark interior and/or darker wheels.

I’ve decided not to tint with my Fjord blue buckets. If it gets too hot this summer I’ll just leave her in the garage.

It’s the heat rejection and glare reduction for me. You can have the AC maxed out all you want but you’ll still feel the burning sensation from the sun because your body isn’t moving out of the way of the sun.

The glare reduction because there are so many cars with improperly fitted and aimed headlights on the road. This is very helpful with night time driving for the front and rear windshield. It’s those lifted trucks and Tesla Model Ys that are the worst contenders for poorly aimed headlights and old ass cars running retrofitted HID headlights.

Not a fan of dark tint because I want to be seen driving my car. I’m not driving a low end car that I don’t want to be seen in lol. So I have 45% sides which is almost clear and an Air 80 windshield.

I never tinted windows on any of my cars, though I might feel differently if I lived in a very hot climate. Personally, I think the car looks better without tint, especially if you have a high contrast interior.

I don't think it's "not cool" anymore, but I am starting to like the look of lighter tint. Typically I've always liked 20% or less and never liked any lighter. Now I think the sweet spot is 35% (which I know to some may seem dark). I don't like no tint at all, from an aesthetic perspective, cooling/uv protection, and overall looks...looks too "factory floor" for my liking.

Yeah I feel you. But it’s a tricky subject for me. I need to see it person and all that takes time and patience.

It’s quite simple

You privacy glass a wagon/suv

You clear glass a coupe/sedan

All cars look better tinted with the exception of muscle cars and antique cars, for the most part 1980s and up should be tinted. My personal opinion of course. All the UV, heat reduction, glare etc etc is secondary.

The #1 factor for the car enthusiast I personally know is privacy. A lot of us get nice interiors or aftermarket accessories we like to show off and tint only gets in the way

I like lighter tint these days. Used to be a 20 percent guy. Probably gonna do 45 or 55 on my g80.

I've had 40% on a couple of cars, but decided to go lighter this time for the G80: Xpel Prime XR Plus @ 55%. Waiting for another a few days to partially cure and will then wipe down the interior windows and see what it looks like in sunlight.
