G8x 6 speed manuel hp and torque limits
Is there any info regarding 6 speed manuel power and torque limits? On dyno comparison, 8 speed auto and 6 speed manual have about the same power output but 60lb/ft torque difference. Somehow this makes me think the reliability of the 6 speed. I would prefer 6 speed anyday but for future modifications, I doubt, how is going to handle the power... Where can I find proper info about clutch type, clutch material and transmisson. Thanks

I'm curious if the redline can be moved way up on the manual transmission cars. I know the 7200 redline is because of the ZF and my car pulls all the way to 7200 and wants to go past it.

Same. I do see the S58 has a lower compression of 9.3:1 compared to the S55's 10.2:1 which would be the only thing I see that could prevent it from going higher.

Once flash tunes come out for sure we can go to the S58's limit of 7500rpm

Obviously the day there is a tune you can allow the 6MT to go to 7500. Since the stone age, BMW M 6MT trannys have taken massive amounts of abuse with no issue. People are at 650wtq with the 6MT in the F8X with a stock clutch and the 6MT in the G8X is reinforced vs the F8X. I don't think anyone will have the slightest problem |

My M235i manual tranny failed at around 10000km and soon after my clutch/flywheel at around 15000 (BMW charged me 4800 for the latter, so I shudder to think about the M3). Therefore based on my personal experience yes I think BMW is under-engineering their manual transmission components. It makes good business sense.

I can't speak to the m235i, but go to grassroots racing and it's full of ancient M3s with ancient transmissions that work great.
My E46 was double tracked and was still on its stock clutch at 180k miles Look around and you'll see IMG's video of a stage 3 supercharged E9X with 780whp and the stock 6MT/clutch, zero issues at 100k miles They are practically indestructible. If someone went through one at 10k miles it's either operator error or a defect in the part |

The G8x Manual Trans (An in-house manufactured licensed version of the Getrag 6MTI550) is adapted to match the ZF 8HP; an increase in maximum input speed to 7200rpm, or +200rpm from the normal 7000rpm of the MTI550. Absolute Torque limit (based on required service life) is 580nm but not above 5000rpm input. |
