We were honorably mentioned. I don’t know why anyone would buy an i4M50 over this. But man alive did they go all out on this thing. Probably the perfect companion to a G80/82 for those days you want to go 2.9s to 60 at 80 MPGe or take it easy on the daily commute.

Forged 20” wheels. 510 hp. Bucket sport ventilated seats. Adaptive dampers. Improved aero. Etc.

I had the first gen model 3 p, and it lacked in so many areas. But this seems much improved.

Nice improvements indeed, but it's still a boring looking egg.

Keep it under $55,000 and you can deduct the $7,500 credit, upon delivery, making it cheaper than the long range.

Income, price of the car, specific model. Most Tesla leases under $80k X/S and $55k model 3, however, incorporate the 7500 credit - no stipulation on personal income. All info can be found here:

If you don’t qualify and buy the car, is it safe to assume that the car loses $7,500 on top of regular depreciation as soon as you drive away? Been wondering how that works.

Yes - and the tax credits have been changing over the past few years along with huge price changes, so it’s like dodging a bullet to avoid a huge depreciation hit … basically impossible unless you lease.

Decided to pull the trigger - too cheap to pass up, and so I’m upgrading the model Y. Edit: backed out for an iX

Forged 20” wheels. 510 hp. Bucket sport ventilated seats. Adaptive dampers. Improved aero. Etc.

I had the first gen model 3 p, and it lacked in so many areas. But this seems much improved.
I had a 2020 Model 3 Performance as well. And I also found it lacking in the following areas:
  • Suspension
  • Seats
  • Interior quality
  • Tesla U/I - explanation needed here.
  • Acceleration over 65-70 MPH
  • Customer Service

The suspension was utter garbage. Bounced around all over the place. Bounce bounce bounce. My kids would literally be bounced off the rear seat. I don't know how they actually put up with it. The first time rode in the back I was like "I never realized how bad this is". I thought about upgrading to coilovers but didn't want to invest the money in this kind of car. Now the new one has a revised suspension AND adaptive dampers. Definitely want to try.

Seats were comfortable for me but lacking ANY lateral support. Like ZERO. My wife's Cayenne Diesel had 2x the lateral support. I used to have to hold on to the wheel for dear life exiting my neighborhood through the roundabout. It was ridiculous. The new sport seats look really nice.

Interior quality. I'm not talking about "panel gaps". I'm talking actual quality of parts was very low. Seats were insubstantial feeling. Door panels cheap and hollow. Center console trim easily bent when you pushed on it. No adaptive cupholders. Storage cubby covers that were sharp and would cut you. Etc. Stuff that other car companies have figured out. The refresh ('21) interior fixed some of that.

Tesla UI - a metaphor for all things Tesla. Simultaneously brilliant and frustrating. You can run the whole car from the screen easily. Seriously. It's a no brainer. And yet...no car play. Voice command SUCKED. Voice to text SUCKED. Changing wiper speed SUCKED. Streaming audio would often freeze. Etc. But the built in mapping system was brilliant. You could navigate through menus in a breeze. Like I said...amazing and terrible all in one.

Acceleration over 70-ish. Tailed off quickly. Granted you got there in a HURRY. Nothing can prepare you for the instant hit of the way Tesla just DUMPS the power at the twitch of your right foot. No ICE car can react that fast and even many other EV's don't allow such quick reactions. A Taycan feels slow in comparison unless you get a Turbo. But after 65-70, the power starts to tail off. My Turbo S would be just getting into stride and pulling away quickly. But man, on the day to day, it was a hoot.

Customer service. GAR-BAGE. My first purchase in 2018 was fraught with errors, my second in 2020 was even worse. And as more and more people bought, the customer service got worse. Example: I had an HVAC issue and scheduled service. Telsa ran remote diagnostics (cool!) and determined a part was needed (cool!). They bumped my appointment twice because they were waiting on the part (not cool, but at least they didn't waste my time). BUT. When I finally dropped the car off....the intake person told me that they might not be able to "replicate my problem since it occurred too long ago and the logs have been erased". I'm like....lady, YOUR COMPANY postponed my service TWICE. She's like "I'm just trying to set expectations". I'm like "let me tell you about MY expectations". Lol. That was the last straw. There were countless others. Again, equal parts amazing and epically stupid.

Aside from the customer service part, this appears, at face value to have addressed all the issues I had. I look forward to trying one out. And for the price....you simply cannot beat it (unless you step up a bit to Ioniq 5 N).

Nice! Congrats. It does look very enticing. Your comment on leasing is good too. I don't lease, but the depreciation on my Model S has been so "interesting" that I would hesitate to buy another EV. For about the same cost, I would rather get a brand new car every 3 years. I assume that is what you're doing with the new M3P. I am most curious about the suspension improvements.

I like the new M3P and all the features that set it apart from the standard/long range unlike the previous gen. Will probably replace my Y with the new MYP once it gets updated.

Hopefully, I haven’t been following closely but I think mid 2025 is what I’ve been hearing for the new Model Y. Congrats on the order by the way, gonna be interesting to see how they stack up against the G8x

More challenging than before - Tesla has upped the power significantly. In my comp x was able to gap the gen 1 model 3 perf after 65 mph.

I would imagine the comp x would be neck and neck (stock). In the twisties we will see how the chassis and tires hold up. Not much of a weight delta between the two, so not sure the M will have a significant advantage other than not running out of range. Depends on the brakes but Tesla does have full regen in track mode which is quite an experience.
