This just further cements to me that this car isn't that bold. It's a fairly generic car with a big ass grille. And the aero looks pretty uninspired too...kind of a generic angry mouth. If BMW goes bold, I want them to go all out.

Alpina B3. Why BMW, why? Why couldn't M3 be like that? Perhaps wider hips, but that's it.

This could be BMW's version of the 996 debate. Nice car but the dramatic change was too much for the enthusiast (and general public) to take. Time will tell.

my biggest problem with the bugs bunny grills is that they are too vertical instead of horizontal. I find it interesting that almost all the official pictures of the new m3/m4/4 series show the grills with the wide horizontal euro license plate. I suggest that BMW knows this but somehow won't change its mind on the new grills.
I think the bugs bunny grills make the car look weird and soft. |

Ill no longer comment on the grille, it is what it is. But the fatal flaw, imo, is that bmw built a frankenstein M3 rather than fully commit to their stated goal, ie to separate the 3 series and 4 series into two unique models, like the 5er and 8er.
This being their intended goal, they’ve completely failed by using the nose from a different model and thats the root issue. They should have fully committed to their goal and made the M3 and M4 the M versions of their model lines. This new M3 has no lineage to the 3 series, its a 3er with a 4er nose and thats rediculous. Before anyone goes there, this is not the past where the 3er was a 2 door and a 4 door so it atleast made some sense that the coupe nose design was used for both M versions. If they believed in the design so much and wanted 4 doors, they could have made an M4GC and keep the M3 as the M version of the 3er. Now the 3er gets no M and a nice design goes to waste. Just doesnt make sense, split the models into unique cars as u said, fine, then fully commit and dont build frankenstein aka Scotts gates of hell |

Would you have been more inclined if...
**I did not make this photo, if already posted, or if they owner of the rendering is here, go ahead and take credit! Sorry if repost**
I was sent this photo today by a friend of mine.... As I'm sure many of you M enthusiasts and owners have shared the same heartbreak as I have over the news of the G80/G82 M3/4 design... I can't help but wonder if I myself, or if the rest of you fine folks would've been placing an order or swapping the F82 or other M cars you own for the G82 was designed and built with kidney grilles instead of the nostrils. The other flaws I could learn to live with or find a way to alter them..like the seat colors, and exterior color options but the front end is really my main area of contention and why I'm looking elsewhere for another car. Thoughts on the kidney grille rendering?! Let's hear your main reasons why you're skipping it!

I don’t get the constant reference to the design being for the Chineses market. Most cars sold in China, including the top selling dozen or so are pretty normal and even boring looking cars. I suspect the G22, G80, and G82 might sell well in China, as well as other markets, but I don’t believe the new i4 styling language is Chinese.

Although I'm slowly getting used to the look of the front, here's my interpretation of more classically shaped grills.

That being said, they will probably be building the M2 to quench enthusiasts thirst. Having worked at BMW in my early career, I am a mix of both old school BMW fan and love the new design direction, so I would love to see a car in the lineup that aligns with BMW's core principles that the brand was built off of. It's obvious they built these new cars to evoke a feeling - for some it's a feeling of disgust and for other's it's athleticism. Either way, seeing one of these new cars in your mirror behind you might influence you to change lanes |

Someone on another forum likened the design of this car to a McMansion, which I thought was pretty apt. I think that also applies to a lot of modern car designs.
I also think the inside part of the headlights is too soft in contrast to the sharp vertical grilles. |
