Black exterior&black grill is probably going to see a huge increase because that is the only way to hide these atrocities. It is amazing I don’t like the car in any other color.

It will be big and feel just as much.

If you ever drove the M340i, it's a rocket on the highway but around town, it feels like you're at the helm of a boat, which doesn't bode well for the narrow, congested, city streets..

The F82 looked so sleeked, even if it wasn't my thing, I certainly wouldn't mind owning one

This G80 feel like more of a chore, than something to spark up excitement; like your grandfather kicking the bucket and leaving you his Cadillac CTS-V; yea, I'll take it but only because it's free..

So to speak..
As an M340i owner I wouldn't say it feels like a 'boat', in fact having driven it for a few months it feels really good and if anything to go by the G80 will be even better. It'll suit ///M buyers looking for 4 door practicality - I mean it is the smallest 4 door ///M car available today.

I really hope BMW build the G87 with a 4 door variant which will be ideal in size and practicality for enthusiasts like us that need 4 doors.

Well depends what your reference point is, but for me the M340i is a boat for sure. Immediately apparent when you drive it. It’s fast that’s for sure as well.

That front doesn't look aggressive in that render, it looks meh. Maybe M Performance parts would fix that.

Yea, no beef, I love the M340i, I'm always raving to everyone what a "sleeper" it is but its size is a big turn off to me, personally.

Maybe it's because I'm used to smaller vehicles.

To each is own, I guess...

It's not the big grill that's the issue - it's the divider in the middle. It's why Audi and pan Americana on AMG look good. And the bmw looks like rabbit teeth

It may look similar to Audi with some minor adjustments, like removing the middle line, but it doesn't look anywhere near as nice. I am not a big fan of Audi as it looks rather plain, but what BMW has done here I wouldn't say it is boring, it is very much in your face, and not in a good way. The angles of the grill look incredibly awkward, the renders appeared significantly better and less rounded on the edges. This reminds me more of the Guilia in the sense that there is this very awkward eye sore in the middle of the car that people can not look past.

I decided to survey a handful of friends today, and sent them pictures of the latest mules that appear awaiting to be shipped somewhere. I did not say anything about my own opinions and simply asked them what they thought. They vary from people who don't know much about cars to knowing a decent amount, but not so much that they have seen these pictures yet or know exactly when a new M3 is being released. These people all have mentioned they really like the F80 M3 in the past.

The consensus ranged from female friends saying "ewww", and the reasoning was that it just looked like it was trying to do too much. I tried to get them to say why, and they wouldn't point directly to the grill being the reason, they gave no reason other than this.

The guys that were asked the same, and mentioned the car still has very BMW lines, the grill came up more with them, one said the grill initially is a bit odd, but is now neutral on the grill design, he didn't notice too many other radical changes from the prior model. Some said they were initially shocked, but kinda dig it. One responded w only "uhh butt cheeks". There were a couple of other responses that were more of what you are getting on this forum from the guys.

I am curious what non forum members think of the grill, to me based on social media and just asking a handful of friends, the grill is not as big of a deal to them, but they also aren't going to be spending $75-95K for a car anytime soon either. I think if you are going to be spending a significant amount of money on a new car, you can't be neutral about the way it looks, you have to love it. I have not seen many people say they absolutely love the design, a large majority of the people either dont like the grill or think they will learn to live with it. This just does not seem like the precursor to a successful vehicle launch.

My reference point is a 'mid-sized sports sedan'. Comparing it to the rivals in its class it's not much different in size. If I was comparing it to say an M2 which was my previous car it is of course larger car.

Probably quite the opposite, the G20 is already a good looking car therefore I think the G80 with the S58 engine, best in class tech and all the ///M body flares will make it a recipe for success. As for the grill, well let's just wait and see it in person before passing judgement.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..
