I'm guessing that BMW will again say it's to stop parachuting in the rear bar... their typical M car muffler which doubles as a diffuser.

You didn't think it could get any worse and then you see this… I really don't know what to think anymore. Utterly atrocious.

Oh my goodness what is this?
That exhaust doesn't give any balance look to the rear.
Who is designing this car? And who are the main target customers for this car?

They should come out with different bumper and grill as M performance parts.

I know China bashing is popular these days but please show proof on your claim that "Most of the market there looks for ostentatious and vulgar looking vehicles"? I've not seen any study that says this nor have I seen any more vulgar cars roaming the streets in China than in the US. In fact, if you look at Chinese Feng Shui design philosophy, it's about balance, harmony and flow which is the opposite recent BMW designs.

And why an M car? Looking at 2019 sales reports, M cars represent only 2% of BMW sales in China, not statistically relevant. Mini sells about 3x as many cars (in China) as all M cars put together. My 2 cents in particular with some of these outlandish M Performance Parts, is that they're trying to attract the younger crowd (of the world, not just China) and trying to also take some share out of the lucrative aftermarket performance-looking parts.

Maybe because they only sold 2% in 2019? Trying to pump those numbers up by designing something China will eat up (I have no idea all conjecture)? And how much of the younger crowd can afford $100K cars? Sure some can but the overwhelming majority cannot so why try and market to them if that is what they are doing? I would be interested to see what the median age for M3/M4 buyers actually is.

I'm only 35 and seeing the ads make me feel old. I've been fighting to like this car, but I can't be associated with low-class trick fast n furious crap. We've come a long way since then. But then again, I really see society sliding into the toilet bowl more and more. The stupidity virus is worse than COVID. This doesn't surprise me.

The car looked decent enough to me before I saw this. Now I can't unsee it. They should have just stayed outta that game.

The F8x was much better than the E90 M3 in everything - and we used to have two E90 M3 in my household.

There was a Motorsport purpose in the F8x design and implementation that this G8x just scrapped as not relevant. This is a flash in the pan M3, made for discarders - the same people that buy an M5 or an E63 and dump the car after the lease is over or before for something shinier. Then you get a used market of $50000 M5 with a few miles in a couple of years. This M3 is not the first to be stickered at over $100,000 MSRP with regular options and dealer add-ons for nothing.

We used to get an M3 with Motorsports, now we are getting an M3 with M Performance.

I however later learned how modern turbo charging has an effect on the rated power numbers and make them misleading. Learned that FI and NA rated power numbers simply cannot be compared. Further, a lot of effort was put on the F8X weight and all other performance elements of the F8X were very appealing. All in all, on paper, the F8X was clearly a better car than the E9X, which is why I had a deposit on one before they were in showrooms and before I test drove one. As you say, with the G8X, there is no technological step forward in terms of performance orientation. However I do see several step backwards, such as the size (wheelbase), weight and 8AT. I was recently lucky enough to have driven an F90 M5 on track back to back with a PDK 992C2 for multiple sessions. The ZF8 is decent enough, but it sure is no DCT or PDK (it feels sluggish and disconnected in comparison). Now, that 992, despite feeling relatively underpowered (too say that 379hp is underpowered ), was pure bliss to drive .

You can see it in the press material for the G8X, there is very little emphasis on what was done performance wise to the car (as massively opposed to the F8X). The G8X press material is mostly about the "looks" while the F8X press material was about what is under the skin. That's quite telling IMO.

Let's time it on track.

Everything before that is just Motorsport Theater.

All the grilles crap wasn't bad enough, let's double down on messing up a classy and elegant car to make it look like it's ready to go for a rally race. Throw in some paint and decals as well cause there isn't much scream yet for attention on the road.

Can't wait to hear the market bs again in that european accent building bridges of another car with pure elegance, refinement and "joy".

Good job Hyundai and Kia designers, love how your team sticks to your basic design principles or making any car look like yet another tasteless/tacky mix of wrong angles and curves

And I leave you all with some drainage pipes

This reviewer is a total M fanboy! I keep hearing from all the reviewers of this car that it is really aggressive! All I am thinking is, it is really made for the modern Douche! The M Performance variant of this car if absolutely terrible! Who the hell would buy this car setup as it is in the video? I own a 2020 X3 M40i, a 2015 M3 and 2011 335i. I have no idea what buyer Bmw was targeting after designing a car like this. So dissatisfied with the new design!

Wonder how much the labor is for the M performance exhaust? As this is going to be expensive considering that a new rear diffuser is also required. Best route is via PIA, as BMW NA absorbs the labor install and the parts are added to the Monroney sticker, especially useful if leasing.

I can see the G82 CSL using the M performance parts factory installed, such as the rear wing and exhaust. :

Utterly appalling, what are they thinking/smoking, seriously that car with MP stuff and the wrap honestly they must have kidnapped the BMW board to allow this stuff to get signed off.

I'm actually starting to feel embarrassed to drive an M car.

Nah.. looks like a recent civic. The 2000 civic was graceful compared to this thing.
I cannot believe what I'm seeing right now.

They've really gone mental with the design, this is some tacky 2000's Pimp My Ride crap. Not one bit of elegance anywhere to be found.
Exactly what I thought, looks like a 2000 Honda civic
