Love the color, wheels and front splitter. Personally I hate the rear spoiler and side skirts that catch leaves.

Beautiful color! I want to like these wheels. But there is just something about them that just turns me away. They also look small in this format. Idk why.

And yes. That gap is massive for some reason. Much larger than I would expect.

too much body kit, IMO.
Like a Cavaliar Z24 from the 90s!

Beautiful shade of blue though!

The winglets on the rear? The wing on the trunk doesn't catch leaves at all and keep surprising clean all the time. The side skirts and winglets on the rear bumper do catch gravel (after road sanding in winter; not so much now) and water, not so much leaves. So you have to pressure wash the gravel out, and then blow the small amount of water that can't naturally drain. I've never seen them catch leaves but I've not had this car with me in fall so let's see.

Cool.. for people that can't distinguish the two, it's great to save about $60-100K and just get the Type-R.

The side skirts and rear winglets are there because, to me, it slims down the waistline of the M4 and masks what I consider a bit of a problem spot in the flow of the design. The problem with the carbon bits is that one you have some of them, the car only looks "complete" with nearly all of the parts.

Since I have the 825Ms too, I can share why these wheels create that impression. Both the wheels have a smaller inner lip that runs parallel to the outer lip behind the spokes. In the 825Ms, the inner lip is black and the outer is a bright, machined surface so your eyes only register the bigger outside lip. On the 963Ms, everything is the same color and the spokes are very thin so the eye catches the inner lip easily.

It's fascinating how little design elements influence our perceptions. Like the gloss black bits around the car slim the car down (and the bigger CF pieces do it even more), but when those same bits are painted body color, like some people have done here, the car suddenly seems bulky. When it's all the same car in essence.

I'm still a bit put off by going non-OEM on substantial performance bits. And while I appreciate the look of a lowered car, I don't think I'll tolerate the ride. I don't like having to slow down too much on roads that are intermittently rough. And then, I cringe to say this but I've already managed to scrape some PPF under the front splitter exiting a parking lot onto a road (of all places! Completely didn't expect that and was caught by surprise when it happened).

Looks great!
Mine is getting all those M Performance pieces (minus the wing) installed in the next couple of weeks plus the Vorsteiner front grille.

Are you planning on tracking? I'll be at Pacific Raceways a couple of times a month starting in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

Would be cool to do a photo shoot with the two cars. Mine is Portimao Blue.

I can't get past the deck lid spoiler…the car instantly morphed from a sophisticated German performance car to something out of the Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

- better sunlight and weather for photos in Seattle, so a more representative set of Enzian Blue photos.
- the 963M summer wheel + tire set on. This and all the post-factory changes in between has started to make it feel enough like a different, more "complete" car to me and inspired splitting out a new thread.
- custom plates, finally! Washington state was backed up on custom plate production due to the pandemic and it took about 4 months to get mine.
- miscellaneous carbon fiber parts (beyond VPC installed parts), and PPF on everything (as in the older thread). The windshield also has Stek Dynoflex and I'm sure it's prevented a bunch of chips and cracks already. For comparison, my exactly 1-year old X5 has had 2 trips to Safelite to fill in large cracks (3 to 7 mm in diameter).
- front & rear 24x7 Blackvue dashcams, Valentine V1 Gen 2 blend-mounted, M Performance floor mats, carbon fiber seat back tops (Autotechnic), BMW carbon fiber slim-line license plate frame, Weathertech trunk mat with ///M logo 'overwrite'

To focus on the wheels, these are the lightest wheels that BMW makes shaving off a whole 3.5 kg of unsprung mass off the 826Ms according to this page:
"How much does the lightest wheel weigh and which one of the range is actually the lightest?
Kristian: The lightest OEM wheels are the 963M weighing in 9,9 kg for the 19" (front) and 10,9 kg for the 20" rims (rear). So these 4 rims are approximately 3,5kg lighter compared to a 826M car set."

How much do they cost?
They are listed on ShopBMWUSA with the Michelin PS4S tires (mounted and balanced) for $6,420 before tax. When I saw them listed on a local dealer's version of that site for $5,578 in the middle of winter, I just jumped on them, and they'd been in storage since.

How do they feel?
They feel great. I can't say I'm sensitive enough to notice 3.5 kg+ of reduced unsprung mass, but there is some intangible overall goodness in how the car handles with the wheels and tires together. A good part of it is from switching from winter to summer (sidewall is stiffer so there's less flex, and corresponding body sway/rebound, felt in cornering). The tires contribute somewhat to road noise though.

Avoid, consider or buy 963Ms with summer around the corner?
There are better ways to spend what they cost, but if you are going to have a separate wheel and tire set for summer/winter anyway, the additional cost for these (considering the cost of tires too in that equation) may not be that large. If you must have the best possible wheels for (incremental) performance, then absolutely, buy. They do look good too as the following photos will show. My personal perspective on these wheels for where I live is that they'd be great in summer but may be a bit too dark for overcast winter days, so my switch back to 825Ms for winter feel like a good balance.

More photos?
I post rarely to social media but I did want to provide dedicated content for fellow enthusiasts (dissociated from my personal profile):

Voodoo Blue, Mexico Blue, Enzian Blue, Santorini Blue?
Going an Individual blue in this tone, but can't tell them apart? Here are some other member-posted pics:
Voodoo | Mexico | Enzian | Santorini

Still confused? Owners can barely tell the difference because these colors are so rare that you'll just about never even run into a variant in your area to do a side-by-side comparison. Suitably specced, you'll end up with a 1 of 1 in the world. You can't go wrong with any of these blues, or indeed, with most of the unique colors in the BMW Individual palette.

Also snareman has real-life painted samples for sale if you want to see these in real life and various lighting conditions to make up your mind.
Amazing! Congrats!!

Beautiful color, it looks great in the better weather. I feel your pain on the window cracks/chips, 3 windshields in the calendar year 🤦🏽. Great looking car.

Do post photos when you're done! Having an infant at home precludes such activities as tracking right now due to general time pressures. I think it'd be on the cards in 2023 maybe.

Crazy design language. It's almost like different people designed what the car should look like, and then the functionality of the parts.

Not sure if you're comfortable driving around with a lowered vehicle. I would definitely consider larger wheels doing a 20 upfront, 21 into rear to help offset the huge side profile that sucking the wheels into the car and giving it a very strange look. I think the car could look magnificent… just needs to have the suspension system dialed in and the wheel system.

Am I the only person who don't like any kind of rear spoilers for G80/82?) Especially this one.

Anyway, the car is stunning. Congrats!
